It's been over two years since Sly Granny first opened their doors. Located on the third floor of a very busy street in the entertainment hub of Indiranagar, the first thing that strikes you about the restaurant is their decor. Eclectic is a word that will jump to mind. Every attempt has been made to ensnare patrons with the visual diaspora of brick-a-brack that festoons every nook and cranny. You have a few seating options and can choose to lounge on the terrace in addition to their lounge. For the latter, you may need to ask them to turn down the music like I did cause it was difficult to hear and be heard. I visited over the weekend and was immediately denied their Mon-Fri menu. I wish I'd read about this on their social media platforms since I had been looking forward to trying some of their more celebrated dishes. Even so, the weekend chefs menu/brunch has limited choices and in particular, if you're vegetarian. I'm fairly certain we (party of 3) ended up ordering most of what was available (small plates all). The fish Kedgeree was outstanding as was the crusty chicken and waffle combo. We also ordered the eggs Benedict (this was brunch, after all) which is served on a buttermilk biscuit that is slathered in bacon sans the hollandaise. My egg was over poached but I marched on. It doesnt disappoint given that eggs and bacon wouldn't anyway regardless of how you eat them; so nothing to write home about. We ordered an assortment of cocktails and their gin and tonic left me underwhelmed. The presentation is spot on but the flavors of citrus and spice are muted and there was more ice than there was gin. In short, it didn't sing. Their staff is attentive and you will be met by the manager who is affable. The four stars are more for the experience than it is for the food. I'm fairly certain you will hear completely contradictory reviews but bear in mind, most of those are for winning cuisine that is served on WEEKDAYS. Will I go back for more? Yes. SG has potential and I'm more than willing to take another stab at it....
Read moreChecked out reviews on google and Zomato and went with high hopes but really it was below mid. The restaurant is quite pretty but the food was below average at best.
What we ordered:
Grilled fish (: The fish was FRIED, not grilled (the mashed potato was really good though to be fair). Brought it up to the server, he tried to deny lightly at first, but then took it back. Took another order, which was-
Biscuits and gravy (599 rs): The biscuits were okay, the sausages were so-so, the gravy was terrible. Great disappointment.
Pesto pasta (529 rs) : The pasta was floating in the pesto sauce I kid you not. Not enough salt either in the sauce either. It was awful.
Cheese sauce pasta (529 rs): It was okay, nowhere even near the price.
Budweiser beers (299 rs each) and a coke (159 rs).
Virgin Toddy (289 rs): One of the members of our party had a sour throat so she asked for coffee, which wasn’t available despite having a whole coffee section on the drinks menu, so instead they suggested this disgusting drink.
Also, the server Deep kinda kept pushing more expensive drinks and dishes on us. We noticed he did the same to the group sitting next to us too. But okay whatever, that’s part of his job I guess. But seriously this isn’t a salon or shop that you’d require the servers to do this stuff. There was another server, I didn’t get his name, who took the order for gravy and biscuits and after I ordered it, he tried to get me to order another cider pork dish instead which was 1299rs btw (you won’t find it in the menu photo on Zomato, but it’s present on the restaurant’s menu).
Looks like many people have enjoyed the restaurant and the food, but personally I really didn’t like it at all. It was a bummer. Never going again, and recommending everyone stay away. Interiors are cute sure, but still doesn’t make up for not enjoying even one...
Read moreSly granny is exactly like it's name - disgustingly sly. We went for the Sunday Brunch, they've a menu of 33 items from which you place the order. Because we had a 2 year old with us, we ordered dessert items first which was delivered quickly but everything went downhill from there. We had to constantly keep asking for the food, inspite of paying 1400INR per person. Each item takes atleast 30 minutes to arrive and they give one small portion that isn't enough for even one person. In the end you get tried of asking and reminding them of your order that you just end up leaving without eating anything. To be honest, we are the fools who went here even after reading all the negative reviews for the brunch since 2018. This has been happening for a long time now, so the management is doing this on purpose for cost saving. They only have one waiter who goes to the kitchen to get food for all the tables in a small tray. All the other waiters keep walking around trying to avoid catching your eye. Everyone mentioned that they deliberately take very long to serve food, and many people end up leaving. No one wants to pay money and still keep begging for the food for 2-2.5 hours. Please don't do the mistake we did and still waste money on such an unethical place. Reviews are a boon. We learnt our lesson. What I don't understand is how can the waiters and managers keep doing this to customers? Inspite of charging an expensive bill, why can't they just serve the food as promised. They should be grateful that during the pandemic when so many places are shutting down they're still getting some customers but they're resorting to unethical and immoral practices. I sincerely hope such places shut down and the waiters and managers realise that saving money for their owners after ill treating paying customers will not make any difference to their...
