I visited the VB bakery on 31st December 2018. We were 2 girls, who went their to have their honey cake. I have been there only once before. There was lil rush, so we knew we will have to wait. Now, we kept on waiting, I went to token counter and they said you Take the cake first then I went to other side of the shop l, asked them but they didn't reply anything, they didn't even look at me. I kept standing there. Then I moved to another corner of shop where honey cake was kept, they too didn't bother to reply. People who came after us got their things, then I thought might be they have big order from them, but the next second I saw a man coming in, and he too asked for a single pastry which he got it then and there within a second. After seeing this, I loudly said bhaiya pls give one honey cake here also, and that person just left from there. So I guess this happened may be because we weren't kannadigas. The way they ignored was really cruel. I think these shops doesn't know the meaning of customer service, when the shop is free Everyone pays attention however the role of service comes in when it isn't free. All other shops in food street VVpuram gave so good service desoide of alot more rush there. Will never go back to this place ever in my life. I know experiences are different, others would not have had this kind of experience,...
Read moreVB bakery is located in VV Puram food street (Thindi beedhi) in Namma Bengaluru, VB bakery is an iconic bakery that dates back over 65 years. And some believe it was this bakery that spawned the trend of Iyengar bakeries. We got a phenomenal menu there. I think there were about 44 dishes that I could count but I have heard of some iconic dishes that are the must try there at VB bakery. We have been a bit early there so that's why the store was not too busy. The KBC (Khara butter and congress kadlekai bun is the very popular at VB bakery it was a spicy bun and it was smeared with butter and the congress kadlekai. They were split peanuts that have been tossed in pepper corns and curry leaf masala. There was another very popular dessert called Domrut halwa which was made with ash gourd this dessert will be available only on Saturday and Sunday so you have got to go there on a weekend to catch that. And also I have tasted honey cake there which was made with pure ghee that honey cake was dense and sticky the top was light, airy and sponge but the bottom was where the sugary attack of honey hits me. This is the best bakery which is highly recommended to have some delicious cookies and also pastry...
Read moreOld school baked goods and an iconic place that sells wonderful khara biscuits, salt biscuits, sponge cake and the famous dumroot, that's only available on Sundays. Almost every childhood roadtrip and picnics always meant a huge bag of goodies from VB bakery was stashed away in the trunk for snacking and sometimes served as a mini meal that meant we could get to the destination quicker. I'm not sure if nostalgia is influencing my score here. But I know the make stuff the right way. Most bakeries today make a ubiquitous sweet biscuit dough and then throw in some salt and pass it off as salt biscuits. For the khara version, curry leaves and chillies are thrown into the sweet biscuit dough. It's just plain weird. That's not the case here. Salt is salt and khara is khara. Sweet is another dough altogether. Oh and the badam burphy is good too! Do ask for the wrapped almond toffee batons that came in pastel colored wrappers. Such a treat they are, it's like butterscotch on steroids. The sponge cake is airy and the fruit cake is quintessential with it's mild hit of spices and filled with candied fruit. Parking is a pain though. But worth the visit if you're craving bakery yums from...
