We went after seeing the multiple good reviews about this outlet. The outlet had outdoor seating only which was evident from the photographs of the place therefore we were prepared. However it was quite hot on a Kolkata summer evening and was made even more irksome with the onslaught of bugs. The restaurant claims to be a 'quick service restaurant' but one portion of bao and one of potstickers took them a good 45 mins to prepare. The Prawn Tempura Bao came 2 pieces to a portion and had one tiny sized prawn in each. The bao buns were soft and pillowy but the portion of prawn inside and the strange tandoori mayo in it failed to justify the price. The chicken potstickers were tasty and served super hot but were slightly greasy. But worst of the lot were the beverages. The Belgian chocolate milk shake was milky and insipid and the Berry cooler tasted distinctly like a childhood cough syrup. Overall a Rs 1000 bill for two tiny starters and two non alcoholic drinks in a non AC place with no cutlery and crockery felt extremely unjustified to say the least. We had hoped the taste would make up for the shortcomings in the ambience and comfort...
Read moreOrdered a small bowl of chilli chicken and fried rice. Wait time was approx 20-25 mins. While the food "looked" good we discovered a well-cooked housefly in the bowl which I had consumed partly already. The kitchen staff, Surajit, who made that special dish, initially questioned us with his disbelief and later agreed to refund the money after critically observing the insect. However, within a minute he tried to play a nasty drama by saying that they didn't receive our order nor the payment so he would not make the refund! When we asked him how did he prepare the dish if the order wasn't received he couldn't answer that question. Furthermore, we showed the evidence of successful payment which he could not deny either. Finally, the refund was given after some not-so-pleasant conversation. We will remember Hi-Bao for the well-cooked housefly and the disgusting staff/cook Surajit who not only was ignorant towards his work but also dishonest and unprofessional. The management should look...
Read moreBeing a foodie and bong, I’m always on the prowl to look for good food, and pocket friendly menu without compromise in taste. I happened to discover this outlet via word of mouth from a friend and boy it turned out to be wonderful. I ended up ordering the potstickers (momo) and chicken miso soup. The momos were amazing and had right amount of filling and properly pleated. The best thing, the momos had an authentic taste and mild garlicky flavour which brings back nostalgic childhood memories. Coming to the soup, it’s bowl of heaven specially towards the end. So miso,is sweet fermented Japanese soyabean paste which gives the soup its backbone and umami flavour. The veggies have a perfect bite and noodles, “al-dente”.The chicken is perfectly cooked and not at all a stodgy batter which is common at other Chinese restaurants.Overall, my experience has been good but keep chopsticks and also for dinings orders having ceramic bowls would be...
