This review is about our dining experience in Aaheli Restaurant, Axis Mall, New Town. To start with, I would simply say disgusting and overpriced food. Let me explain a little bit more. We four of us on the friendship day on August 05, 2018 went to this restaurant with a hope to spend quality time with authentic Bengali dishes and top-tier service to enjoy our day. To our surprise, the order took forever to serve the food. We ordered Bhetki Machher Bhaja (four pieces), Eelish Bhapey (two plates, two pieces/plate), one order Daab Chingrir Pelobota (6 pieces), three plates of plain rice (Gobidobhog), and regular water to drink. The rice was half-cooked and stiff, eelish was tasteless (pansey/watery; partly because of low quality fish and partly due to poor cooking), Chingri was rotten that was clearly visible on unremoved gills. The staffs were not apologetic for that; contrary, they blamed the supplier. A good restaurant will never do that, and most of the time they will offer you additional item(s) to compensate or do not charge for the poor quality food. This restaurant did not exercise good business policy to earn our (customers) future business. Away from these, Bhetki Machher Bhaja was the only item, which was somewhat acceptable quality (I would rate 2.5 star out of 5 star). In the end, the bill was Rs. 5975 including 5% GST, which was almost Rs. 1500 / person. Don’t you agree it is overpriced for the amount and the type of food was served? You can get similar dishes with far better quality food in a competitive restaurant in and around the region that may be half or even less of its price. Our overall experience was so terrible that we will never visit this restaurant, neither this brand anywhere else, ever again for the rest of our life. I honestly do not recommend anyone, not even to my enemies, to dine in this restaurant. My feeling is that their own people wrote some of the good reviews, and others wrote without detailing why they liked it. Finally, after reading this review, if you still cannot resist yourself to dine in this restaurant, I wish you g-o-o-o-o-d luck...

Aaheli restaurant opened on May 18, 1993, a month after The Peerless Inn started operations. The insider story says that when Mr. S K Roy, the chairman, had planned to launch Aaheli, there was a strong resentment from the Board on the business viability of a Bengali restaurant in the fine dining segment in Kolkata. Thanks to his persuasion to the Board Aaheli became the first fine-dining Bengali cuisine restaurant in Kolkata, possibly India. The restaurant has always been in the same spot and has always reflected Bengal’s culture — from the madur (woven mat) on the tables and batik-print cloth napkins to the traditional food that is served. In a typical Bengali four course meal, you first get Aam Porar Shorbat followed by Gandharaj lembu to cleanse your palate. Then follows an elaborate thali- Dhokar Dalna, Basanti Pulao, Doi Potol, Panch meshali torkari, Jhinge alu posto, Bhapa chanar dalna, Beguni, Khejurer chutney, Luchi and Rice. Then follows the Misthi doi...
