A Disappointing Decline
I recently visited Dasa Prakash for breakfast, a restaurant that I once held in high regard and frequently recommended to friends and family. Unfortunately, this visit left me thoroughly disappointed and questioning how dramatically a place can change for the worse.
The Experience
The meal started poorly and only got worse. The coconut chutney, which should be a highlight of any South Indian breakfast, was unbearably salty—so much so that it was practically inedible. This was particularly jarring since a good chutney can make or break a South Indian meal.
The vada suffered from the same excessive saltiness issue, making it clear that this wasn't an isolated problem but rather a systemic issue with their seasoning. Most disappointingly, the dosa arrived at our table completely cold. A cold dosa is not just unappetizing—it fundamentally changes the texture and enjoyment of what should be a crispy, warm centerpiece of the meal.
The Bigger Picture
What makes this experience particularly disheartening is the stark contrast to my previous visits. Dasa Prakash used to be a reliable spot that I would confidently recommend to anyone seeking authentic South Indian cuisine in Hauz Khas. The quality has declined so precipitously over just a couple of years that it's genuinely shocking.
Final Verdict
Based on this horrendous experience, I can no longer in good conscience recommend Dasa Prakash. The fundamental basics—proper seasoning and serving food at the right temperature—were completely missed. I seriously doubt I'll be returning, which is a real shame considering my previously positive experiences here.
For fellow diners: I'd suggest looking elsewhere for your South Indian breakfast needs in the Hauz Khas area until they address these serious quality control issues.
Bottom Line: A formerly reliable restaurant has unfortunately lost its way. Save your money and taste buds until they get back to their...

Read moreIt was my younger daughter's birthday and we wanted to try a mix of North and South Indian dishes based on the family appetite. We ordered Veg platters in the starter combination of hara bhar kabab, paneer tikka, dahi ke Sholay, dahi kabab and masala chaap which was served quite well and was surrounded by mixed veg masala salad.
We had various drinks masala lemonade, juices and filter coffees. Also strawberry shakes, mini idli and french fries for kids, they thoroughly enjoyed it.
Had a wonderful experience at this vegetarian restaurant! The ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the service staff was attentive and courteous throughout our visit.
For the main course, we indulged in a delicious South Indian spread—Mysore dosa, ghee podi masala dosa, rava plain, rava onion, and rava masala dosa. Each dosa was perfectly crisp and flavorful, served with three chutneys: coconut, pudina, and tomato, along with a perfectly balanced thikha-meetha sambhar.
Thoroughly enjoyed every dish!
A special thank you to the service staff for their prompt service and for playing the Happy Birthday song—it truly made the celebration memorable.
Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Veg North and South Indian...
