We headed to The Westin last Saturday morning for a mini getaway, just minutes away from home. The pandemic protocol was followed to the hilt, with temperature checks, compulsory masking and sanitiser stations everywhere. It kept us feeling safe and stress-free from the risks of COVID-19 inside the hotel. Dhanashree met us at the reception and whisked us off to an executive suite on the third floor. The muted palette, comfy furniture and elegant interiors paid the perfect compliment to the stunning view from the floor-to-ceiling windows of a vast expanse of coconut palms newly nourished by the rain. Spread across 71 square metres, the suite offers a separate living and lounge area, mini pantry with a fridge and incredibly inviting lounge furniture that’s ideal when staying indoors is the way to go. I must say the amenities make it pretty easy to laze about in the room. We spent our staycation taking long baths surrounded by scented candles, pampering ourselves with the signature white tea aloe bath amenities and the luxuriously soft bathrobes. It will be exciting to try out everything on offer at each of The Westin’s four restaurants - its all-day dining restaurant The Market, the deli Anjuna Coffee & Co, the Drift sunset pool deck and modern grills at Thyme & Ash. For our little getaway, we left it up to executive chef Ravish Mishra to make the decisions for us from his repertoire of Continental, Asian, Indian and Goan menus. The Westin puts you in but a trip here would be incomplete without a stop at the spa. After all, this brand is known for its simply luxurious take on wellness. Heavenly by Westin certainly lives up to its name. Spa manager Zoni and her team offer a personalised rundown of the menu to find out what options would best suit your mood and requirement. We chose a couples’ Swedish massage to relax our muscles after a tiring week of exercise. Our therapy began in the relaxation room where our feet were washed and warmed to set the tone and switch off the awareness of time. The massage Staycations have taken on a new meaning in this lockdown. We truly enjoyed our getaway at The Westin and our interactions with general manager Sunil Kumar and his staff. This new luxury destination just minutes from home was a pleasant surprise and I’m eager to see it blooming to its full potential post-pandemic.

The Westin Goa is great. Let's just get that out of the way. It's a beautifully designed, airy property that looks and feels brand new. The design is very contemporary yet inviting and the openness of the lobby and the spa is an inspired choice. As soon as you enter the lobby, there's vibey music that serves as a great reminder that you're in Goa and the rest of the property ensures you never forget. I loved all the plug points in the room– it feels simple but I can't overstate how many hotels I've been to with 1 plug point and you probably have to unplug a lamp to even use that one. No problem like that at The Westin Goa, in fact, the wireless charger/alarm clock makes it feel like a hotel room of the future. I recommend the non-pool facing room if you prefer quiet and more privacy. Speaking of the room, it's huge and very comfortable and very inviting. We suffered through the first night because our AC was faulty and made a ton of noise but as soon as we called the reception, they got it sorted in around 15 minutes. There's a great pool and a game room with carrom, table tennis, foosball, chess, and snooker in the property and the beach is around 5-10 minutes away. The property also is 10 minutes away from quite a few top-notch restaurants and that's not even including the great restaurants in the Property. Thyme and Ash is a grill restaurant that had an excellent Truffle Menu and an excellently cooked Tomahawk steak. Akshat and the entire staff at Thyme and Ash were great as was Youfica at Drift– the Pool Restaurant and The Market. The service is impeccable all-round. Finally, Yasir helped us with the checkout and was very efficient. We had a great experience at The Westin and will most certainly be back whenever we're in Goa.

Insanely loud music from a Function One sound system, up until midnight (and beyond) every weekend in December, for parties that have almost no one attending. If I was in a nightclub I’d be happy to see a function one. But I don’t want one blasting directly at my hotel window from 15 meters away. The volume is super high. The bass is literally vibrating my windows. Everything else was great about the hotel, food, staff, breakfast, room. But this music is a bad joke. It’s not like it’s even a good party! It’s kinda sad to watch. The DJ is very mediocre playing badly mixed commercial generic music, and the “party” has literally about 5 people in attendance. The staff are just walking around looking lost at their empty dancefloor. I probably wouldn’t have left a review for the hotel if it wasn’t for this, because I don’t leave many reviews. But if I would have reviewed the hotel before this music I’d of given 5 stars. But this sad lonely party the whole hotel is being forced to listen to turned it into 1 star, it’s that bad. “We’re having a party it’s the weekend” I was told by reception. Who’s having a party? There’s no one here! Are people secretly dancing in their rooms? We’re not even angry, It’s honestly so poorly run and obnoxious it’s funny. Every time i get annoyed with the noise I look out the window, see the empty chairs, and get a little kick out of their utter failure to throw a party. We’re writing this review literally laughing at 11pm, with bass thumping, in our room wondering how anyone in management thought this was a good idea. No one wants your sad parties. Especially not your paying hotel guests. Stick to being a hotel, you’re good at that.

Let me list the positives because it's not a very long list- the food was delicious. However, the rest of the stay, is another question.

Firstly, on check-in, I provided my GST details. Yet, at the time of check-out, I was not provided a GST invoice. Due to another hassle at check-out (detailed below), it slipped my mind to ask for it at check-out. I made 4 different phone calls later to receive the GST invoice. Each time, the clerk asked me to provide my GST number. When I refused to provide it after having already provided it twice on the phone, the clerk checked the file and pulled out the GST number. LAZY STAFF. Later, when I asked them to update the name on the GST invoice, I received an email saying they do not do this post the guest's departure. Squarely refusing to accept their mistake of not issuing a GST invoice at departure, when such corrections could have been made then and there. Next, the complete lack of sensitivity of works being carried out. While we're at the pool trying to have a relaxed time- painting work was being carried out. The odour of the paint was headache-inducing. When we then moved to another couple of deck chairs, we found them littered with towels and trash of its previous occupants. Next, they decided to move some deck chairs in the adjacent area and clean the floor with another incredibly smelly disinfectant while also scrubbing the floor impossibly loudly. Again, we had to tell the cleaners to stop what they're doing. Next, when we asked if the pool-side music could be turned down, the attendant simply shrugged his shoulders and said he is not aware, it's not in his hands and walked away. Overall, the pool was a disappointment and the staff was completely unhelpful. After ordering room service one evening, it took 2 phone calls and 2 visits to the lobby for clearance service to be provided. They were clearly not adequately staffed. The music. Throughout the day, the base of the lobby/pool music would carry into our room. Further, the LOUD EDM from their sundowners two consecutive nights in a row made it feel like the party was happening in our room. Twice I called reception and asked them to reduce the volume but it was of no avail. Then, I went down to the reception. I spoke to them the first time and asked them to reduce the volume, yet they did nothing. Finally, I went down again and this time had no choice but to sternly tell them to turn it off or else I'd call the police on them. I had to raise the matter with their associate director of marketing - the only senior person available at that time - who then went and turned the music off. I have no problem with you playing music but it should not disturb my peace and sleep. The rooms are not sound-proofed. Playing loud music when all the guests can hear it at bed time is a sign of poor, thoughtless, insensitive planning I asked to be compensated for disturbing my peace and told them to think over what would be an adequate compensation. However, at check-out, no charges were waived. I decided to pay my charges anyway, wanting to let the matter pass. However, when I asked the hotel staff to help me talk to the driver who would drop us to the airport about making a pitstop on the way, he simply shrugged and said "They're external drivers, not ours, we can't help you." Yet again, the staff being completely unhelpful. At this point, I had to call for the manager and tell him how pathetic the stay has been. I refused to pay the additional F&B and cab charges and told them to waive it off at once. I had to raise my voice for any sort of action to be taken. No amount of reasonable conversation seemed to work with the staff. They were completely impervious to it.

Further, there were several complaints overall from various guests about the lack of enough staff and the loud music.

Overall, I found the staff clueless at best and unhelpful at worst. Let alone hospitality, they have not even been trained in basic people skills.

I will not be visiting this property again, nor will anyone...

I stayed here Feb 10 till Feb 13. I think this hotel had the worst service I have ever witnessed in the Marriott company. I am a huge fan of Marriott hotels, just last year I have stayed over 12 Marriott hotels which included JW Marriott and The Ritz Carlton. They all had impeccable service.

When we first checked in, the women at the front desk were unfriendly, did not smile at any of the guests. They didn’t tell us anything about the hotel amenities, they just took a deposit for the hotel and gave us a key.

We went to go have food at Thyme & Ash, amazing service. Outstanding food and the people were friendly, helpful, and full of great suggestions. No complaints here.

That same night I called front desk, they did not pick up. I then called the restaurant for some tea, and they picked up and sent it within a reasonable time.

The next morning I had a very important meeting, and the wifi would not connect for 20 minutes. I then called the front desk and concierge and they did not pick all 4 times. I did call from the hotel room, I then decided to call from my cell phone, suddenly they picked up, which is a bit odd to me. It gives the impression that they care more about new guests coming in, rather than the guests that are already staying with them. Anyhow she told me that my last name was spelled in a different way and that’s why the Internet wasn’t working, my last name was spelled Dosangh when it is Dosanjh, it was fine the day before so I’m not sure who updated that. However she did not sound like she cared about my meeting was set back.

Then the cherry on top of the hotel is the valet. The first time we picked up our car from valet, they told us it’s a 20 minute wait, we sat down to wait. We waited for full 30 minutes, and then my husband went outside to ask him why it’s taking so long and valet said “oh you wanted your car?” They had taken our valet card but forgot about the car. We got the car within another 15 minutes, and we just let it go as it was our first time with valet. unfortunately the next morning they did the same thing, the forgot that we were waiting for our car, and took another 40 minutes. Later on, we had someone visiting us who also parked with valet. When she was leaving we gave them the card and she waited for the car, and they could not figure out which car she was in. We told them twice which one, and they still couldn’t figure it out till a total for 30 minutes has passed. That same night we were going for dinner, and we had a collaboration to get to, we came from shopping and told them to leave our car outside as we were going to be 10 minutes to change. They said no problem. We came out and the car was again parked underground. He said it was going to take 30 minutes so we said we can go get our own car because we are really late and they didn’t listen. When we were on our way out from the parking lot in our car, we saw another valet attendant hit someone else’s rental car, he was coming into the parking lot and hit the left front side of the car. That really scared us because it could’ve been the rental that we had as well.

The day that we were checking out which is today, I spoke to the front desk and let them know what was happening. They didn’t seem to care much so I asked to speak to the manager and a man named Yasir said he was the duty manager who was right beside the co-worker I had initially spoken to regarding the complaint, the ‘manager’ was right beside him but didn’t care until I asked for him. I did find it a bit odd as he was wearing the same white shirt as the rest of the staff, I assumed that the manager would be wearing something different, or a suit like the rest of the managers. However I asked him again if he was the manager he said yes. I told him everything about our stay, he said he will take it to account. That was it, we didn’t really get a response, I would love if somebody from Weston Goa can...

Stylish Sanctuary in a cradle of Nature!

While this Westin has all the chic ingredients of a typical high end Westin hotel, it also comes with a retreat vibe that is uncommon in this part of Goa. You might not be treated to a beach vibe, but the caressing breeze and view of the lush greenery that would greet you when you enter will make you forget where you are. And almost teleport you to a destination that is more known for jungle lodges than beach resorts! Probably the best way to experience an international vacation while still being within India! Overall, with fine welcoming hospitality, gourmet food, awesome ambience, lovely setting this is the perfect rejuvenation you might need during demanding times.

LOCATION: Lovely location in between Anjuna and Vagator. Nestled in a quiet green area and away from the maddening crowd of the beach area. But still you are only a quick drive away from the beach if you want to hit it for sunset.

DINE + DRINK: Excellent Restaurant with lovely outdoor Alfresco seating, as well as some tastefully decorated indoor areas. The menu is packed with both excellent regional as well as wide range of international cuisines. The chef and team did a great job of whipping up some wicked dishes for us. Some of them were very customized beyond belief as the chef was more than willing to experiment and prepare interesting dishes that were not even on the menu. The breakfast was divine - thanks to Chef ASHISH and RAJEEV whipping up some magical local dishes that were well worth the 2 hour workout that had to be done to compensate! :-) The Bar also was a cool space to hang out and chill, with a great selection of beverages - international and local.

ROOM: We stayed in 3044 which was a SUITE, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Sweet view of the Lush greenery and mountains at a distance. ; SIZE: Very spacious Suite with a lovely Living room fitted with stylish furniture and a even bigger Bed room that was great for a wonderful quiet time in the night; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Westin’s signature HEAVENLY bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Huge Bathroom with signature Heavenly Shower in a Stand in area, as well as a styling bathtub.; TOILETRIES: Good Spa quality cosmetics by Westin’s own HEAVENLY SPA brand.

FACILITIES: Very fine Gym with a Full range of weights and Cardio machines good for a full on workout. Sweet Swimming pool also, with some of the Pool patio rooms having direct ‘plunge access’ to it. However because of COVID protocols, we couldn't enjoy either.

SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all our needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to SHIVANI who made the welcome experience wonderful, Chef RAVISH and his staff for cooking up a delightful feast. VISHESH and BHAGYASHREE at the restaurant for hosting us very warmly. DHANESH at the bar for making the evenings magical along with his wonderful staff(RAJIB, PREETI and SUNITA and others). And of course DEVI for ensuring the overall stay was an unforgettable one!

HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment in multiple languages

COVID UPDATE: THe property has done an excellent job of ensuring safety , social distancing and hygiene to minimize the risk as much as possible. Especially the Common areas and Restaurant had good implementation of the...
