We visited Gulati Restaurant at Green Park yesterday—it’s a pure vegetarian place. We ended up ordering so much food (honestly, don’t even ask), but somehow didn’t click a single photo. So here’s a quick rundown of everything we tried, what we loved, and what we’d skip next time.
Malai Chaap This is a must-have. We’ve been here a couple of times before, and not ordering their malai chaap is basically illegal at this point. It’s insanely good—the kind of good that ruins chaap for you everywhere else. It’s rich, flavorful, soft, and well-marinated. Yes, it’s a bit on the pricier side, but the taste fully justifies it.
Dahi Ke Kebab Another solid choice. Creamy, crisp on the outside, and really flavourful. These two starters—malai chaap and dahi ke kebab—are absolutely worth trying.
Achari Paneer Tikka This one was suggested by the waiter, claiming it was spicy. Spoiler: it was not. There was zero spice—nothing remotely close. If this is their version of spicy, we’re terrified to know what their “mild” tastes like. Definitely a miss. Tasted more like boiled paneer with salt than any real achari flavour.
Chaap Biryani A good pick if you’re craving something spicy. The biryani comes with raita and salan (a gravy on the side), which adds nice layers to the dish. The only downside was the chaap quality—it felt a bit low compared to the rest. Still, decent enough to try once.
Chur Chur Naan with Choley This combo was delicious. The naan had good stuffing and crisp edges, and while the choley were bland, the taste was good overall.
Overall: The food here is solid—definitely above average. A great spot if you’re in the area and looking for a good vegetarian meal. Bonus: Right across the road is a Baskin Robbins for that perfect post-meal ice cream...
Read moreWhen hunger pangs strike you at 11.30 pm, you have to be lucky to be in Safdarjung Enclave, because while restaurants near Lutyens Delhi down their shutters at 12.00 midnight, B5 market and Green Park restaurants thrive till 1.00 am!! So we, the Veg family, headed to the Veg Gulati, Green Park. Our previous visit was not very satisfying. Not because of the restaurant, but because of the them existing chemistry between each of our family members. Somebody was irritated, couple of us had picked up arguments, my son was sleepy and so it was not a good way then to judge this place. Now however was just the right time. We had some coolers, fresh lime soda, soup, starters, Maharani Thali (which in keeping with the times is bigger and better than Maharaj Thali) had a plate of Kadhi Chawal which was so beautifully decorated and presented. We had desserts in the form of Gelatin Icecream, had milkshake and finally each one was like a python who had a large meal, and had to almost slither out to our home beyond 1.00 am!! There was hardly any crowd, thanks to it being a week day. The lovely music from Arijit Singh to the Dooba Dooba star to Lucky Ali just made for a perfect "post dinner" dinner or the double dinner. Excellent marks scored by the restaurant in the looks department too. Look at the pics! Reasonable charges. (Well, actually a bit on the higher side) But the service is absolutely 5 star. The space is quite limited though. We were tempted by the buffet offers - dinner and lunch - and we are making our plans for that. Overall a very fine experience for a family with members of rather widely varying tastes, interests, age group and temperament!! Glad that we have found a common ground!! Will...
Read moreA Disappointing Experience at Gulati – A Far Cry from Its Glorious Past
It pains me to write this review, not out of anger, but out of sheer disappointment. Gulati has been a part of my life for years—I’ve grown up with fond memories of dining here, and I’ve always associated the name with quality and excellence. Unfortunately, my recent experience fell far below expectations.
Here’s a breakdown of what I ordered:
Sweet Corn Soup – Bland and uninspiring. I genuinely believe even a roadside Chinese stall would serve a better bowl.
Dahi ke Kebab – The filling tasted like a sweet mixture of dahi and cheese, which didn’t work at all. Personally, I prefer savoury flavours in my appetisers, and this was far too sweet.
Chaap Biryani – Perhaps the biggest letdown. I couldn’t help but compare it to Biryani Blues, which, despite being a casual chain offering frequent deals like 1+1, serves a far superior chaap biryani. That comparison alone says a lot, and it’s disheartening coming from a place as reputed as Gulati.
Amritsari Naan – This felt more like an aloo paratha than the rich, flavour-packed Amritsari naan I was expecting.
Mushroom Tikka was the only saving grace. Well-marinated, flavourful, and perfectly cooked.
I’m writing this because I care. Gulati holds a special place in my heart, and I sincerely hope the team takes this feedback constructively. Seeing a place you love not live up to its own legacy is truly disappointing.
