As an avid history enthusiast, I recently had the pleasure of visiting the remarkable Hauz Khas Fort in New Delhi, and I must say that it left an indelible mark on me. Nestled amidst the bustling urban landscape, this hidden gem from the 13th century offers a captivating journey through time, seamlessly blending history, architecture, and natural beauty.

Stepping into the complex, I was immediately struck by the aura of antiquity that enveloped the fort. The red sandstone walls, weathered by centuries of existence, stood tall and proud, revealing the fort's glorious past. Walking along the narrow pathways, I could almost hear the echoes of bygone eras and imagine the life that once thrived within these walls.

The centerpiece of the fort is undoubtedly the massive reservoir, or "hauz" in Hindi, which lends its name to the entire complex. The shimmering water, surrounded by lush greenery and dotted with vibrant lotus blooms, creates a mesmerizing sight. This reservoir was ingeniously designed to provide water to the nearby settlement and served as a vital resource during its heyday.

Climbing up the terraces, I was greeted with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Hauz Khas Village and Deer Park. The vantage point offered a stark contrast between the ancient fort and the modern skyline, reminding me of the harmonious coexistence of the past and present in this vibrant city.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Hauz Khas Fort is the Madrasa, an Islamic seminary situated within its premises. The elegant architecture of the Madrasa features intricately carved columns, arched doorways, and delicate floral motifs, showcasing the mastery of medieval craftsmanship. This historically significant structure served as an educational institution, fostering knowledge and enlightenment during its time.

The fort also houses several tombs, the most notable being that of Firuz Shah Tughlaq, the Sultan who founded the Hauz Khas complex. His mausoleum, adorned with intricate marble carvings, exudes an air of grandeur and reverence. The serenity surrounding the tombs makes them a perfect spot for contemplation and reflection.

One thing to note is that the fort lacks extensive signage and information boards, which may leave some visitors longing for more historical context. However, hiring a knowledgeable local guide or utilizing audio guides available on site can significantly enhance the overall experience and provide valuable insights into the fort's rich history.

In terms of accessibility, the fort is well-connected and easy to reach. It's a short walk from the Hauz Khas metro station, making it convenient for both locals and tourists to explore this historical marvel.

In conclusion, my visit to Hauz Khas Fort was an enchanting journey back in time. Its historical significance, architectural splendor, and natural beauty make it a must-visit destination for anyone with an appreciation for India's rich heritage. Despite minor shortcomings in terms of information provision, the fort's overall charm and serene ambiance more than make up for it. I would highly recommend this hidden treasure to all history aficionados and travelers seeking a captivating experience in the heart...

Hauz Khas Fort, nestled in the heart of South Delhi, is a historical gem that effortlessly blends the grandeur of the past with the vibrant energy of the present. As an avid explorer of architectural marvels, I was enchanted by the fort's rich history and its picturesque surroundings.

Stepping into the fort, I was immediately transported to a bygone era. Built during the reign of Alauddin Khilji in the 13th century, the fort exudes an air of mystery and charm. The intricate carvings and architectural details on the walls and pillars are a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of that era. Walking through the narrow passageways and climbing the ancient stairs, I felt a deep connection to the past.

One of the highlights of Hauz Khas Fort is the stunning water reservoir, known as Hauz Khas Lake, which lies adjacent to it. The serene lake, surrounded by lush greenery and frequented by migratory birds, provides a tranquil backdrop to the fort. It was a pleasure to sit by the lake, enjoying the gentle breeze and watching the sunlight dance on the water's surface.

Additionally, the fort complex houses several artistic spaces, including art galleries, boutiques, and quaint cafes. These modern additions seamlessly integrate with the historical architecture, creating a unique blend of the old and the new. The art galleries showcase contemporary works by local artists, while the cafes offer a delightful culinary experience with their fusion of traditional and international cuisines.

However, it is worth noting that the fort can get crowded, especially during weekends and holidays, which may detract from the overall experience. To fully appreciate the fort's beauty and tranquility, I recommend visiting during weekdays or during the early morning hours.

In conclusion, Hauz Khas Fort is a captivating destination that appeals to history enthusiasts, nature lovers, and art aficionados alike. Its rich historical significance, coupled with the scenic beauty of the lake and the vibrant modern culture within the complex, make it a must-visit spot in Delhi. Immerse yourself in the enchanting ambiance of Hauz Khas Fort, and you will undoubtedly be mesmerized by its...

Actually this was a great place. Has a great history from Allauddin khilji to firuz shah thughlaq, i am attaching a pic of the information board for those who needs to know the history. This place consists of remains of Firuz sha's tombs, thughlaq tombs, masjid and madrasas Talking about the atmosphere it was a great place. A great place to enjoy historic archetecture with a lot of greenery. It would be a great place for you if you are a photographer, because of the numerous possibilities of beautiful images from this location; even the squirels here are good at posing for images. The place is next to a lake which is not accessible via the fort though, but one may go there for free through the entrance of Deer park which is very close to the fort.

Well its a great place but if you are with a family i wouldnt recommend this place. This place is a paradise for couples so you are likely to see couples in every corner.

This is place is small a can be seen in a hour or a bit more. This place have clean toilets both men and female along with drinking water facilities inside. About the tickets only online tickets were available when i visited. You may take the tickets in advance or by using the QR code available outside the fort. The ticket fare is ₹20 online and i was said it was ₹25 offline.

Now lets talk about how to get there. U may go to the nearest metro stations of Delhi metro of Green park (yellow line) or Hauz Khas (yellow line and magenta line). From the metro station you will need to hire an auto. Same case when it comes to buses, even then you may need to hire auto.

If you are a walker or you are on a pokect friendly package you may just walk from green park metro. There are two possiblities either way you get to visit more places

  1. via bhara khamba (you get to see more of Hauz khas village more monuments)

  2. via deer park (you get to see the deer park, spend some time with the deers, visit the ducks and swans in the lake etc..)

Just go one way and come another. Its just worth it but do this if you have good health and if its not a sunny day otherwise you may...
