Calling all urban sociologists to check out live specimens of classless pretentious people of Gurgaon, getting served by ‘frustrated-with-life’ waiters supervised by a 'decultured' lady manager, to this place called Norenj.
On entering, we were escorted to a table. My colleague hailing from the Chambal belt (ironically he recommended us this place), was the first to sit on the table and all of a sudden, some senior Gujarati big shots executives visiting Gurgaon seated adjoining the table protested to the escort saying they have already asked the manager to keep the table reserved. The escort looked apologetically at my colleague, but my colleague wasn't ready to budge. Somehow, looking at the happy go lucky pleasent faces of our neighbours, we caved in, and our distinguished colleague had to get up.
Soon we were given another table and meanwhile one more colleague of ours joined us, who was on a fast that day. He would only have tea or coffee, which the waiter refused despite a variety of teas available on the menu. I called another waiter, and he immediately said. 'Yes sir, tea bilkul available hai'. After a minute, he reappeared and said tea won't be possible at this time. I understand 'Shaam ka time hai, Dhandhe ka time hai'
We asked for a special request to the manager to arrange for a masala tea for the colleague. She said she would check in the kitchen and would try her best to serve the required. Meanwhile, the other drinks ordered for the rest of us were served, but nothing said or done about the tea. Our colleague asked us to start with our drinks, assuming that his order for tea would take some more time.
After five odd minutes, I hear two waiters standing behind me whispering to each other in Hindi, “Now tell them the tea won’t be possible”. Post that for another five to seven minutes, nothing happened, and after that, the lady manager came and communicated the same to us. We then asked the manager for an alternate order for our fasting colleague of that of French Fries “without Salt”. She repeated to us the same order twice to confirm the exact order.
Then the fries arrived, but a couple of us who ate it first realized that it was sprinkled with salt. We immediately called the manager, returned the fries, and asked for the cheque. She still had the gall to levy a 10% service charge on the bill, which we asked her to reverse, which they finally did.
Despite this, both of my collegues from Chambal, both renowned top executives in the automotive industry, kept their cool. I was agitated and told the manager that she had no respect for religious beliefs, else she would have ensured this would not have happened.. She put on the well rehersed tape.' Self extremely sorry, sir, i completely understand, we apologise, will get it changed'.
We paid the bill, we got up to leave, and the new fries arrived. I guess someone got complementary fries that day there.

The service needs improvement to be honest and is mediocre at it's best. We waited about 30 mins for drinks and the food seemed as if it was arriving from Zomato/Swiggy to an out of service delivery location.
Aside from that, the food was decent. The Mediterranean Platter was definitely worth it. The Fries were nice and crispy. The Margherita was rich and definitely welcome as the cheese melted as we hogged at it. The white sauce veg pasta was just about average. Too bland and lacked vegetables, all we had was capsicum/bell peppers, 5 pieces of zucchini and a few blocks of broccoli, which was unexpected. I asked our attendant to give me a straw for my Long Island Iced Tea and he just brought one and put it into my glass. Wouldn't have hurt if I'd received one that I could open and use. Given Covid, it's not the smartest way to be handling someone's straw like that.
Overall, I think they could have managed their operation more efficiently. However, I think you shouldn't be too quick to judge but the truth is the truth.
Cost: it's reasonable, the cost for a decent meal here with a beverage will cost you about INR 2000-2500 depending on what you order and how much you eat. Do I recommend the place... I guess when things get busy, we expect a lot of "jhatkas" as us Hoteliers call them, yet they ought to have some sort of control. You can still check the place out. They've got some l good food, but they really need to pick up the pace when it comes to service. Try it for yourself for the true hands on experience, I'll probably give them another shot...
Read moreLast night, I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Norenj in Gurgaon with my son, and it was an experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we stepped in, the elegant ambiance, infused with a warm and inviting atmosphere, immediately made us feel like we were in for something special.
However, what truly elevated the evening was the extraordinary service we received, led by a remarkable front staff member named Anil. His professionalism and grace were unparalleled, but what really set him apart was his genuine passion for hospitality. Anil made us feel like we were VIPs, going the extra mile to ensure our comfort and delight. His recommendations were spot-on, and his attention to detail was impeccable. He was always present when needed, yet never intrusive—a true master of his craft.
The food was nothing short of sensational. Every dish we tried was a symphony of flavors, beautifully crafted, and presented with care. Each bite was an adventure, and it was clear that the kitchen is dedicated to delivering the highest quality dining experience.
Norenj is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience in culinary excellence and exceptional service. It left a lasting impression on both my son and me, and I can confidently say it was one of the best dining experiences we've had in recent memory. I will be returning soon and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect blend of taste, ambiance, and...
