Peng You Quan (Friends Restaurant) — Restaurant in Gurugram District

Having lived in Hong Kong for over 7 years and spent a significant amount of time in China, I was craving Sichuan food. Friends restaurant was supposed to be the closest to authentic Chinese food you can get in Gurgaon - what a lie. Very disappointed. The food is not even close to authentic Chinese - a strange mishmash of flavors. The Kung Pao chicken was heavy on soy. The Chongqing chicken was not spicy at all. They seem to be reusing the whole chilies as the chilies had lost their flavor. Veg dumplings had egg in them - I have never seen this either in HK or Chengdu or Shanghai or Beijing. Overall, bad food and not worth the effort. Basically Gurgaon does not have good Chinese food. Also, if anybody is interested - the Chinese customers are made to sit upstairs while everyone else is in the "ordinary" section downstairs. Korean hot pot was excellent . Quantity was too much good part takeaway is always there to help. Quality of ingredients was excellent which is why our food got digested in few hours and we were hungry again inspite hot weather outside we enjoyed the hot pot . Chefs sticky rice fried rice was top notch and nailed it 👌it’s a must have. Liked the part that they have a huge open sitting place and also VIP rooms with ample seating options that can easily accommodate large quest. Also ordered the pork rib soup which could have been better. Overall great quality food easy on the stomach. Best part was very affordable pricing based on the pan Asian and Korean dishes. So if you are looking to have great quality pan Asian or Korean food specially hot pot that is easy on the stomach then this is a must visit place in south point mall....

Now when one gets to eat at a place, much recommended by another Chef, who has no vested interest here, one presumes that there has to be something exceptional about the food for sure, if not everything about the place. So here we were, 4 of us, looking to experience one good Chinese meal and boy we weren’t disappointed at all. If this not-so-large place in the Central Plaza Mall has anything right going for it that night, it was just the food. Delicious stuff, very good portion size and that’s about it. An electricity glitch/trip initiated our discomfort and the flustered staff couldn’t keep up with the service too.
