So, this is how the cookie crumbles. After my lunch at Utupura Kerala Restaurant, I posted about how I liked the food there and I also got home a parcel for the family. Since they had already eaten, I kept the food for dinner. I had ordered a fish fry, Malabar chicken curry and some porottas.
However, I was left aghast when I opened the parcel...the fish fry was charcoal....and when I tried to scrape the burnt layer off...I discovered a fully burnt cockroach...disgusting.
I immediately searched for their number and called them...spoke with a Suresh and he was apologetic, offered me a discount and then a meal on the house...I told him he needs to find out how that happened and steps he will take to rectify the situation. Whatsapped him the pics...but NO response from them until now. I don't think they are going to do anything. Someone SAW the fish and yet packed it, speaks volumes about their ethics.
Obviously, the whole parcel went into the trash.
My recommendation is that you share this info among everyone and avoid this restaurant. I don't care about the wasted money but this is just not acceptable. It is sad that I will never go back to a restaurant that I was very enthusiastic about until yesterday afternoon.
See the pics and decide...
Read moreThis restaurant might not look great but the food here is worth a try, apart from the traditional kerala non-vegetarian varieties they offer, I once tried appam with mushroom curry it tastes real good or JIC if you are not sure you can just ask the waiters they suggest you suitable dishes for the parotta or appam, the last time I visited I ordered appam and asked for suggestions the waiter suggested us 'Avoli Pollichathu' it is a traditional kerala dish in which a fish is roasted with gravy on top and wrapped in a banana leaf, I took a bite of it and I instantly flew to malabar, It was an awesome experience, I wouldn't say they serve you the best but it still would leave your taste buds satisfied, people who are bored with local hyderabadi and andhra cuisine can visit this place for a...
Read moreThere are only two Kerala restaurants in this area, the other one being Akson Restaurant in Panjagutta. I have tried meals at both the places and would say Utupura is definitely better among these two. Me being a vegetarian can say that their veg meal was outstanding especially "Aviyal" was awesome and my non vegetarian friends also enjoyed their non veg dishes. Don't expect much of ambience. They have converted a flat into a restaurant and the interiors give you a Kerala feeling with Asianet channel running on the television. Overall to describe in one sentence "A place you must visit if you are looking at value for money and authentic...
