We did have some excellent food. But also a dish that was either not what we ordered, or not what we expected. It was also not hot. Strangely, nobody queried why we had barely touched it, and we hadn't wanted to make a fuss.
Also, we felt like we had been put in the cheap seats. Sold with the rooftop view as a major point, we were shown to a table under cover because of what we assumed was a big reservation. Those empty tables sat empty all night, and whilst everybody else clapped when they set fireworks off, we didn't get to see them because we were under cover.
I suspect those tables were reserved for residents of the Haveli downstairs, whereas we found the restaurant due to the good Google reviews, and were walk-ups not having made our own booking.
My Rajasthani mutton dish was fabulous, but probably not enough to entice the two of us back during our week in...
Read moreDespite being a pleasant place (kinda...when you're not being rushed by the waiters) this place is WAY OVER-PRICED & serves 'Indian' food in India for foreigners!. They charge the equivalent of €3.60 for a can of beer (it's not even on draught!). In India this is outrageous! My chicken biryani was nice as was the paratha but nothing special. The aubergine was absolutely delicious though. But, the equivalent of €19 for a meal for two people in India is a total rip off especially as you're only getting the same kind of 'Indian' food you get back home. This restaurant is for tourists who want socialise with other tourists, don't mind being ripped off and who would like to say they were in India without actually experiencing India. If you like that kind of thing & eating inauthentic food, then this is the...
Read moreThis is a typical tourist trap: (1) the workers were uninterested in actually serving anything or anyone (especially singles) to the point of near catatonia; (2) the prices were high. I ordered paneer Tikka Masala which was as bland as Sir Kier Starmer. If anything, it tasted a bit like the stuff I usually manage to conjure up which , believe me, is not for the faint-hearted. It has a pleasant outdoor terrace with views of the sulphurous roads below. It’s quite a pleasant respite from the potentially bone-disintegrating traffic below. R360 for a 500ml can of Kingfisher was enough to obliterate any remaining appetite I may have had. Recommended more for a (relatively expensive) evening drink rather than any form of interesting...
