While not completely awful, many things ought to be improved. Especially for such an above-average price.
Foreign tourists visiting India for the first time, don’t be fooled by the sleek aesthetic and Western appeal. You can find much better guest houses for a much lower price. Stay away from this place, until management changes their ways.
For our first night, we were assigned a different room, as other guests had been allowed to stay an extra day, occupying our room. It is always annoying to have to change rooms in the morning after having arrived at 2 AM, but it is still bearable.
However, when management makes such a decision, it is only fair to compensate the affected guests. Which they did not.
Our new room (room 105) had an awful smell of rot and sewage. We discovered that there was a drain, right next to the bed. Not in the bathroom, but in the actual room?? Not even in the cheapest guest houses in India have we ever experienced such disgusting room conditions. When we asked to change rooms (which would then be our second change in two days), we were told that a different room was available, but it would cost us 500 Rs extra a night. After we had politely accepted their poor management decision without any complaints, they would not return the favor, but demand money instead. This is what I consider poor service. However, they gave us an air freshener spray for free… As if that overpowers a sewage drain.
Additionally, power went out multiple times (which is to be expected in India), but the water too, which is unusual. The rooftop restaurant had beautiful views and good food, but at more than twice the price of comparable places. Not at all worth it.
I must say, the staff was friendly and welcoming. Do not blame them. It is not the chef’s fault that the prices are designedly to be a tourist trap and it is not the receptionist’s fault that a room is designed with a drain next to the bed. And room-changing policies are entirely the responsibility of the management. At such a price level, I expect a much better experience.
Management, please do yourselves a favor and take this...
Read moreDylan Cafe Restaurant in Jodhpur enjoys widespread popularity, largely due to its remarkable rooftop view, which offers an unparalleled vista of the imposing Mehrangarh Fort. The cafe’s location is undoubtedly its strongest asset, with many visitors flocking to experience the panoramic setting, especially during the golden hours of sunset when the fort is bathed in warm light. It’s evident that the prices at Dylan Cafe are reflective of the breathtaking ambiance rather than the culinary experience itself.
While the menu boasts a variety of options ranging from local Indian fare to continental dishes, the food can be best described as satisfactory, though not extraordinary. It falls short of the high expectations that its reputation might set, leaving diners feeling that the establishment is perhaps a bit overrated in terms of its gastronomic offerings. The meal, while decent, doesn’t quite justify the hype, and it’s clear that much of the allure lies in the aesthetic experience and the magnificent view.
The cafe’s blue-painted walls add a charming touch, reminiscent of Jodhpur’s moniker as the "Blue City." The simple yet welcoming decor complements the relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal place to unwind after exploring the city. Having visited only for lunch, I did not have the opportunity to assess the rooms, though they are frequently mentioned. Overall, Dylan Cafe is a delightful spot for those seeking an unforgettable view of Mehrangarh Fort, though one should temper expectations when it comes to the...
Read moreWe had booked at the dylan cafe when we reached the property was quite early in the morning. We requested the man at the front desk to keep our bags so we can have some breakfast and come back. We took a random tour of the place and realised it was quite dirty and smelling. Then he started asking us to make payment 6 hrs before checkin and started insisting on the payment. He was not letting us leave without payment. Then we asked for our bags back and he said I'll not give the bags till you make the payment. He wanted to keep us hostage untill we made the payment. In 20 years of travel i have never had such a bad experience. Very shameful of him to take our bags and refuse to give it back. All conversation started off politely untill He threatened not to give the bags back and demanded full payment. No body demanded an AC room for 500 bucks lol, we asked him if he had one lol . In your roof top cafe there was a big gang of people sleeping no one offered any tea or coffee. He was very rude and scary. That's when we decided to cancel the booking and left. Same was reported to booking.com. this was the worst experience ever. Take care if you book this property. Surrounding area also very shady. This guy is really spoiling the name of such a beautiful and historic city like Jhodpur. We then booked in such a lovely place few mins away from this and had such an amazing experience. Jhodpur is a great city rich in art , culture and sightseeing. Don't let such places ruin...
