This place is heaven. A quaint little place set up decently amidst a garden. You can actually feel the love in the food that is served. It tastes just out of your mother's kitchen. I happened to meet the aunty who cooked it to compliment. You can actually feel the warmth and how beautiful as a person she is.
The food is simply out of the world. We tried the pepper chicken. It was loaded with pepper. You could feel the flavour of pepper linger on your palette even as you move on to the next dish. The akki otti was crispy yet soft and the beautiful burnt flavour around the edges. The chicken cutlet served hot literally melts in your mouth. But the highlight was ghee rice and pudding. How can someone make ghee rice that stands out in a fight with pepper chicken, right? Ghee rice was filled with raw spices giving it a flavour like no other. Topped with fried onions and saffron water. It's a hands down winner. The pudding had crunchy crumbles of probably biscuit as a layer topped with a dollop of chocolate sauce. Perfect amount of sweetness that it makes you order more than one (3 in my case)
Now to the other side, don't expect a hotel like experience. It's like you visiting your best friends house. You want water, you get yourself water. Nobody comes to take orders. Go tell your order and wait for 30 plus minutes (took me an hour) for the food to arrive. Not a place you should go if you are starving. But hang on, it is totally worth the wait. The first morsel you have, all the irritation due to waiting would just go away.
Overall light on your stomach and wallet despite a very heavy meal.
It's way too underrated to be...
Read more"Tiger Tiger" came highly recommended on @googlemaps as one of the top restaurants in Madikeri serving authentic "Kodava" cuisine. A bit tricky to spot from the main road, we had to wait till 1pm for the opening (Google Maps says 12.30). We were greeted by the friendly host and we chose to sit outdoors to make best of the good weather. We ordered a few items of their menu, from the starters to the main course. For starters, we ordered the "Pandhi Bhartad" (Rs.160) which was Pork fry with Onions, ginger, garlic and green chilli and "Chicken Cutlets (2pcs)" (Rs. 100). The wifey didn't enjoy the pork fried and I would say it wasn't their best attempt but I did quite enjoy the rustic flavour thanks to the Kodava spices that they used, but the meat could have been a bit more tender. The cutlets tasted really good but I would have liked it a little firmer. For the main course, we went for the non-veg combos. I ordered the "Ghee Rice & Dark Pork Curry combo (Rs.250) while @sareekaasok went for the "Chicken Combo" with Otti, Paputtu & Skadambuttu(Rs.250). While the Ghee rice and pork curry combination was outstanding thanks to the fatty pieces of belly pork and the thick spiced gravy accompanying it. It was cooked to melt in my mouth and my wife made sure to steal a few pieces from my plate. The chicken curry and roti combo was just about ok and the Otti tasted way better with the pork curry. The Cons? It took an hour for the food to arrive and they completely forgot about the cutlet we had ordered. Other than that, the experience was rewarding. Read moreThe homemade vanilla ice cream with kiwi pudding stood out. So fresh. I don't like vanilla ice cream at all. Ordered with hesitation as there was nothing else for dessert. But the flavors were wonderful and ended up eating two. Run by ladies. They are a bit silent and humble. We had paputtu and pundi with veg gravy and bambooshoot palya. And one more (don't remember). It was good, though not extraordinary. Value for money overall. The coffee was very average (coming from Bangalore) and not hot enough. The serving can get delayed if crowded. Did not happen for us as we were the only customers and lucky us. It's worth a try, at least for the humbleness. They have a toilet at the entrance, outside the gate. Indian type. Hope no one else is using it as it is outside. If you are looking for a clean and western toilet, please avoid it. There are two ways to go. One is from the highway, and you can go down. People with bad knees and legs, it is a bad option. Another is to take a deep turn to drive down to reach the parallel road, which has easy access to...
