On the evening of June 8, 2025, an order was placed for a biriyani from an Alankar hotel Thrissur, a name that, for the customer, had been synonymous with quality and reliability. However, what arrived was a dish that failed to live up to its reputation, being described as "one of the worst biriyanis I have ever had." This incident raises a crucial question for any reputed eatery: why the inconsistency? For a city like Thrissur, which boasts a vibrant and discerning culinary landscape, consistency is the bedrock of a restaurant's reputation. Patrons, especially those who frequent an establishment based on positive past experiences, expect a certain standard. A significant deviation from this standard, as experienced with the aforementioned biriyani, is not just a culinary letdown but also a breach of the unspoken trust between a restaurant and its customers. While online reviews for various "Alankar" establishments in and around Kerala show a mix of praise and criticism, with some specifically lauding their biriyani and others pointing out instances of inconsistent quality and service, this particular experience underscores the latter. A prior positive encounter at the same hotel makes this lapse in quality all the more glaring. It suggests a potential issue with quality control on this particular day, a matter that a "reputed hotel" should address with utmost seriousness. The 210₹ price point, inclusive of GST, further sharpens the disappointment. In a city with a plethora of biriyani options across various price ranges, a premium price tag from a known brand implies a guarantee of quality. When this guarantee is not met, the customer is left feeling not just unsatisfied but also short-changed. This review serves not as a blanket condemnation of Alankar, but as a pointed critique of a specific, and deeply disappointing, experience. It is a reminder that a good reputation is painstakingly built, one satisfied customer at a time, but can be tarnished by a single subpar dish. For Alankar, and indeed any respected culinary establishment, this incident should serve as a call to reinforce consistency and ensure that every plate that leaves their kitchen is a true reflection of the reputation they have worked to build. For the loyal diner, it is a hope that this was an unfortunate anomaly and not a sign of a decline...
Read moreNice food. Porotta and beef fry is the best here. Nice Biryani too. It is not overpriced. Decent restaurant with a decent price list. Even we can get a half chicken Biryani at a half price. Egg won't be there in half Biryani, and that is great news for the people who are afraid of being over -weight and high cholesterol levels. Now the restaurant is renovated and a variety of foods are available. There are various Chinese dishes too. The food is good and at the same time the restaurant is clean and tidy. Not like the nowadays trend of changing the staff and suppliers frequently, there are a number of old staffs. Now the trend is employing many so called "Bengalis" in restaurants for preparing food, supplying and cleaning. It is a very sad fact that many of them are very very poor in personal hygiene and also they may not prepare the food hygienically. Here in alankar I saw a couple of "Bengalis" as cleaning boys but I hope there are no one engaged in preparing the food. The restaurant is located at the city centre and we can access it easily. Parking is an issue. I am not sure about a parking lot availability. In my knowledge there are no parking facility. So I may rate this restaurant with 7 out of 10. You can try atleat once and I am sure you will love it and...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing experience at Alankar on Post Office Road. Our family of 10, including a child, had gone there with high expectations, but the food and service were simply unacceptable. We ordered several dishes, including chicken kizhi porotta, which was completely soaked in Dalda and tasted awful. None of us could eat it. Later, we also ordered veg schezwan fried rice for the vegetarians in our group, and it was no better – it felt like eating plain red chilli rice, extremely oily and lacking any proper flavour. What made things worse was the service. The waiter was rude, dismissive, and had no sense of respect towards customers. When I pointed out the oily plates, his casual response was that “their dishes are cleaned in a dishwasher,” which did not solve the issue at all. Almost every plate we checked had the same problem, which makes you worry about hygiene and safety. Honestly, this kind of food and attitude can even cause health issues like food poisoning. For a restaurant that caters to families, this is extremely concerning. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and I sincerely hope the management takes these issues seriously and improves both the quality of food and the behaviour of...
