If you're a vegetarian and in Kerala then finding a good place to eat is a challenge - if you require Jain food or happen to be vegan then this is a near-impossible task. However, there is at least one such place in Kochi that can satisfy all three requirements - Green Spoon. Located at Elamkulam Junction, this restaurant is an excellent option for vegetarians. There is parking for around 10 hatchbacks and a handful of two wheelers. The family dining area on the top floor is air conditioned. There is also a mezzanine floor with two tables that can seat eight people. However, there is no lift access to these floors which might limit access for some. A ramp at the entrance would also be a welcome addition. Outdoor seating is also available. The warm lights shining down from wicker-basket style light fixtures are a unique touch. A proud "We ❤️ Veg" sign is the recommended spot for the mandatory post-meal selfie and is well-lit.This restaurant is definitely aiming to provide a more upmarket dining experience compared to the assembly-line experience that one can get at any of the franchise outlets in Kochi.
The menu serves North Indian dishes, a small selection of Chinese dishes as well as an extensive selection of fruit juices. Legends for Vegan and Jain dishes are clearly marked on the menu, which is a plus. The butter-topped nans were feather-light, soft and fluffy. Paired with succulent paneer cubes in a deliciously creamy spinach sauce, the combination offered an intriguing blend of taste and texture. The salad which had lettuce, carrots and onion tossed with black olives, lemon and pepper can be a meal by itself. The crispy fried pani puri gives one a sweet/spicy/tangy experience and seems to follow the season's favourite theme of Everything Everywhere All At Once 😉 Only minor gripe would be the un-cushioned seating arrangement which could be uncomfortable for some. This is definitely a place you would want to come back to just to try the other dishes...
Read moreFor the management team. Thank you for the reply to my previous rating. Cannot edit my previous review and hence posting a new one with my actual review and points if not for the whole capsicum episode.
Firstly, appreciate your response and will mention the food was decent if not for the lapse on the main course which I had (Paneer Lababdar which came with capsicum in it). I know you being a restaurant owner definitely know more than me about food, therefore sorry if am wrong but based on my personal experience alone I have never seen Paneer Lababdar having capsicum. Yes Kadai Paneer and couple of other Paneer dishes does have capsicum but I have never seen or had lababdar with capsicum in it.
I didnt raise the concern with the staff as they never came to check if everything was okie and was the food good or anything. Not that the restaurant was packed thr was hardly 2/3 tables occupied when we were there.
Would also like to mention it is solely my concern that I just can't stand capsicum in my food and never had Lababdar the way it is in your restaurant hence didnt expect this coming. Didn't want to be a cribby customer so didn't raise the issue but I made sure i tell the server in the end that it would be great to add such a thing on the menu which said only nut gravy. Reg the tip of course its something the staffs deserve for all the hardwork they put in thruout the day and its just a token of appreciation to ensure they feel appreciated.
Not sure when or if I will visit your restaurant again in future.. but if I do I will ensure to dig deep myself to know what all is added in the dish bcoz unfortunately am very picky with my food habits therefore I probably should put the effort myself too and not blame it entirely on the restaurant. But I would really request you to check for a normal recipe for paneer lababdar as I strongly feel it shouldn't contain capsicum.
Wishing you guys all the very best and thank you for doing all...
Read moreI can’t stop raving about this gem of a restaurant, I recently visited Kochi and I was there with my brother who is a pure vegetarian person. So we started looking for a pure veg restaurant and by a quick search we found a place that delivers both flavor and quality consistently is rare—but this place nails it every single time!
We tried Dahi Poori, Baby Corn Mushroom Masala, Tandoori Roti, and the irresistible Green Spoon Special Kumbh Biryani – and every single dish was a knockout. The Dahi Poori was an explosion of tangy, sweet, and spicy flavors, perfectly crisp and refreshingly cool. The Baby Corn Mushroom Masala was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor—ideal with their soft, hot Tandoori Rotis.
But the Kumbh Biryani? Pure magic. Aromatic, perfectly spiced, and loaded with mushrooms – it’s unlike any other veg biryani I’ve had. Definitely a signature dish worth coming back for… and I do! I’ve been visiting this place regularly—three days in a row, and honestly, I could keep going. The consistency in taste, quality, and service is seriously impressive.
What makes it even better is that it's a pure vegetarian restaurant with a clean, welcoming ambiance. The staff is incredibly polite, the service is quick and attentive, and I even had the chance to personally share my appreciation with the owner, who was humble and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. That personal touch made the experience even more memorable.
Highly, highly recommended for anyone who appreciates truly awesome vegetarian food. If you are in Kochi and looking for a pure veg restaurant with delicious food then Green Spoon Pure Veg Haven't is a...
