Watson's Kochi — Restaurant in Kerala

My family and I have been residing in Kochi for roughly two decades now. We have been to all the popular bars and restaurants that the city has to offer, but the experience we had on the night of Friday the 28th of March is hands down the worst one I've had in this city.

We had been to Watson's before and in our first trip only we had a very bad experience from the start with the valet sitting there looking at his phone, not even batting an eye towards our car. We had to go and get his attention and then his holiness finally arrived. Mind you there was light drizzle at the time too. We decided not to let it ruin our outing and went inside to have our food. On coming out, we see that our car was parked with the wipers on the windshield, which can cause scratches to the windshield.

This really frustrated us as anyone would be because it's damage to our car. We raised it as an issue but there was not much strong response from the management at the time. Again, we decided not to take it to heart and moved on.

Coming to today's incident, all of us were quite hungry and were looking to just have a nice outing. We had not forgotten the previous incident but decided to give the place a second chance and headed there.

It was me, my father, mother and sister. My father who happens to be a chartered accountant was wearing a shirt, jeans and very costly Mochi slippers. We pulled into the parking lot and this time around the valet was prompt. Then we noticed this buff constipated looking bouncer who seemed like he owned the establishment.

I walked ahead but noticed that he was asking my father something. I initially thought it was for maybe my identity card. However, it turns out that he was denying entry to him because he was wearing sandals and had his "toes out."

And that too in the most condescending manner possible. We decided that we didn't want to give patronage to such a backward establishment and immediately asked the valet to come back with the car and we went to The Grand Hotel where customers are not judged on such stupid grounds and had a jolly good time.

Firstly, this is not some western country or Europe. This is Kochi, Kerala where customers may come wearing Mundu or normal footwear. Get off your trip and stop trying to pretend this is some super exclusive bar that you can enforce such a thing.

Secondly, even if it is DJ night what pertinence is there to my father wearing sandals that he prefers?

To Watson's Management, ninte okke business nashich pokathe ullada. There are infinitely much better establishments in our city that have much better ambience, quality and staff who don't treat customers so poorly and have rules that make no sense. To the people reading this review, take your patronage elsewhere. These people think too highly of themselves and cannot get off their high horse. Pathetic place run by pathetic people who don't respect and acknowledge the culture of our land. What a bloody shame this...

The rating given here is 3 star coz of the terrible experience we had at the front desk. Otherwise it would've been a definite 5 star.

We were very excited to visit the place and we made a reservation well in advance via EazyDiner. We got a confirmation from EazyDiner as well, and on the day of the reservation we got a phone call from Watson's asking our confirmation and we did confirm that we will be coming.

We got there at around 6:35pm and we got a valet to park the car. The valet was very friendly and a nice chap. We then reached the reservation desk and it was a very unpleasant experience. The person at the desk was looking us at in a rude manner, and then started that we will not be allowed inside as we were not wearing shoes. We informed them that we did not get any intimation about the dress code and then they started saying that they had messaged us and called us and informed. We then asked them to show us the message which was sent to us, as we did not receive any message. They then started searching their whatsapp messages to find it out. They kept us waiting till 6:55pm on this. We kept on telling them that we did not get any message, but they were reluctant to listen to that.

Finally then said that they will let us in this time, but this will not be the case next time onwards. I told them that we are not rebels of any sort and if we had received the information we would've come appropriately. The guy at the desk was still looking at us so rudely as if we had committed a crime. He needs to relax and chill a bit. It was a mistake from their side which they were not ready to accept and there were sounding like they were doing us a favor.

We then got inside and were given a seat. Once we sat there, the guy at the front desk again came to us and asked for our id proof, which he did not ask anyone else. This again was very disrespectful.

Anyways we left everything aside and ordered the food and drinks. We ordered a few cocktails and mocktails and some starters and the food was really good. The drinks were equally good but food was beyond expectations. We had multiple plates of peri peri fries (must try), a chicken salad, beef coconut fry and the star of the show was cherupayar fry. It was a random order but it was a banger. Tasted really good.

For the drink we ordered Pacha manga mary, suleimani, morning slice, LIIT, virgin mojito and virgin colada and they were pretty good.

The ambience was also really good and will be a must go place down the line. Good for a friday night chill. The DJ was also playing some cool tracks which vibes with the ambience.
