Well, this three star rating was a generous one on my behalf. But I will explain my experience here in detail. Let's go with the positives first. For those of you wondering where it is, it is in the Pantaloons building in Camac Street on the first floor. I really liked the decor and the ambience of the place. The prices are reasonable - I wouldn't say too cheap (reason explained later on). It's quite spacious as well. Good place to take your family out to lunch or dinner. And the staff was good enough. Here comes the bad news. I had heard good things and read good reviews about this place. So I decided to check it out. First I ordered the chana chaat, expecting something better than regular chana chaats. It wasn't. It was too spicy and not good enough to even take a picture of it. Next I ordered the Onion Masala Dosa whose picture I have uploaded. The size of the dosa was quite big, granted, but only the middle portion contained masala inside. The remaining part of the dosa had no masala. The chatni was bland and the sambhar tasted like tomato soup (literally). So, for those of you coming here for the dosa only, I would recommend you all to go to Udipi instead in Kalighat. That little place will have you going back for more, as it has done to me. Next we ordered the papri chaat (in picture). And all I'll say is that I have tasted better papri chaats in the streets of Park Street for just Rs. 40 (here it was for Rs. 100). Then came dessert - a cake fudge. It basically had a cake underneath three scoops of ice cream layered with hot chocolate on top and nuts. The dessert was okay (looked way better than it tasted). But there were too many nuts on it which ruined the entire taste. And not just any nuts. The salted nuts you get for Rs. 5 per packet on local trains and buses. The only thing I liked amongst what I had ordered was the dahi that the papri chaat came with. So, my review is going to be a contradiction to most others out there. But this was an honest account of...
Read moreIt was my first time in bombay shivsagar in kolkata. Being a mumbaikar I have been to mumbai branches, and was literally craving for authentic taste or somehow similar taste which we have it der. To my surprise the taste was similar to what I used to eat 😍
Ordered pav bhaji, special veg cheese grilled sandwich, fruit punch and onion uttapam which costed us Rs 840 in total.
The pav bhaji was finger licking good 10/10 for the quantity and taste.
Onion uttapam, the sambhar and chutney was good but the uttapam was really nice, crispy from the bottom, and soft from inside. The toppings of onion, green chillies and coriander leaves thats what was missing whenever I used to eat or order from somewhere else. The combo of three is what actually makes the onion uttapam so good. The size and thickness was perfect.
Special veg cheese grilled sandwich - You will get to see 2 options one is veg cheese grilled sandwich and other one is the special veg cheese grilled sandwich, and the difference between two is just 10rs. So we asked them the difference between two, the veg cheese sandwich comes in two layers and the special one comes in three layers. That's the only difference but the ingredients will be the same for both. The taste was really good, the richness of cheese and loaded veggies with side chips was going really well. Definitely a try.
Fruit punch - I was expecting something else when I ordered fruit punch, like orangish kinda drink with some tangy flavours but it was totally different from what I imagined or had in other places. It wasnt bad in taste but dint like it much because of the excess sweetness. They added a whole grated apple on top with rooh hafza. Those who have a sweet tooth can go for it otherwise it's a big NO.
The ambience was good, even being a weekday the crowd was good, would be better to book a seat in advance if you are going on weekends or else go around 7pm.
Overall it was a...
Read moreI visited Bombay Shiv Sagar hoping for a pleasant dining experience, but I was left rather disappointed. The prices are quite high for what they offer, which makes the overall experience feel like poor value for money. While the food wasn't terrible, it was good. The taste and flavours were really good but the steep rates.
One major concern was the use of artificial coloring in the Gobi Manchurian. The vibrant color was a clear indication of synthetic additives, which can have adverse health effects. It's disappointing to see such practices in a restaurant that charges premium prices. There was a wedding anniversary party that was happening to thesmall hall near to the restaurant and loud music and noise ruined the whole ambience.
The service was average, with the staff appearing somewhat disorganized. Additionally, the ambiance was quite lackluster and didn't contribute to a memorable dining experience.
In conclusion, if you're willing to spend a bit more, you might want to look for a restaurant that offers a good dining experience without compromising on food safety. Bombay Shiv Sagar unfortunately did not meet my expectations. The restaurant is on the first floor of a building and a litlle difficult to notice from the main road. However, there is ample parking...
