Hongkong Bistro, behind Triangular Park, Kolkata is a gem of a restaurant for very delicious Chinese and Thai food which we had visited yesterday like several times in the past. However the otherwise great dining experience got marred by the rigid behaviour of one Server. While my spouse requested for 2-3 slit green chillies to spice up her meal, she was outrightly denied the same, but was rather directed to have the sour chillies soaked in vinegar, because the Bistro management thinks that green chillies cannot be served to its diner, even on request, because it is a Chinese restaurant ! However, on an order of Steamed Rice, it can come garnished with slit carrots but not slit green chillies !!
Ultimately after lot of cajoling and feeding of ideas by us, some green chillies were tossed with the Mushroom that was yet to be served. So either the restaurant doesn't care for a specific Customer preference or else its Servers are ill-equipped, inadequately trained to handle specific Customer requests. So time next, when you want that extra zing on the otherwise TASTY, EXCELLENT food of Hongkong Bistro, you may discreetly bite the green chillies or pour the black pepper powder, from your bag, being unsure if outside items are allowed. So this was the first time that my disappointed and offended partner didn't allow the Server to serve any food to her, after the initial service and may be also this is the first time that we consciously left a restaurant without keeping a gratuity for the...
Read moreToday, we a group of 5 people (29.05.2025) went for lunch to celebrate a very special occasion of our boss at Hong Kong Bistro.
We entered the restaurant as the door was open and no where it was mentioned that they are closed. As soon as we entered and before we could settle in, we were asked to give the final order and the staffs won't be present for the next 30 minutes. We were surprised to hear this. They are into service/ restaurant business and they behaved like roadside pice hotels. Their argument was they are going for lunch and we also replied we also came for lunch.
One of the staff replied if we are not ok with their terms then we may leave. We were really surprised by their behaviour. We immediately decided to leave the place as the staffs were very uncourteous and ill-mannered.
Our only argument was if they are not willing to serve at that time, It should have been mentioned properly outside at the gate and the gate should have been kept closed during their so called lunch time.
We regret our decision to visit the place after reading the positive reviews.
Advise to the management, please look into this as this will tarnish your restaurant's image and ultimately will result into closing down the business.
Management people if you really care about your restaurant image, can get in touch with me to know about our experience.

Read moreI have always been eyeing this restaurant whenever I walk through the roads of Triangular Park but I finally managed to visit this place for lunch. And I'm honestly in love with their food. They have a quaint small location, decorated with soothing colours apart from their tables which have quite a number of neon colours on them which I really liked. Reminds me of the streets of some Asian countries. Coming to the food, service was a tad bit slow. But it was fine, because the food that we got was amazing. The quantity is so good and sufficient considering the amount they charge. And the taste of each dish was perfect. For starters we had ordered the crispy fried fish in sweet chili sauce and it was honestly one of the best Chinese/Thai starters I have ever had. We ended up ordering it twice. Then we had ordered Jhad Thai (Fried Rice along with Fried noodles) so that was something unique and very tasty when paired with Shredded chili garlic chicken with mushroom, which was honestly mild in flavour and richness but was delicious at the same time. Definitely visiting this place again....
