Say Hello to Oh Calcutta most awaited Hilsa Festival 2021

Head to oh Calcutta for some lip-smacking preparations of Hilsa as the popular restaurant, known for serving Bengali cuisine brings to you a Hilsa special menu.

The city’s most popular Ilish Festival is back at oh Calcutta. A new Menu that celebrates the divine flavours of the Hilsa showcasing traditional flavours & some exciting twists.

Every year in many renowned Bengali restaurants of Kolkata organise Ilish Utsav Or Hilsa Festival in their restaurants..in the same way, Oh Calcutta comes with the Ilish festival In their house..In our regular menu, we are limited with Ilish Paturi, Doi Ilish, Ilish Jhol, Bhapa Ilish, and fried Ilish but oh Calcutta offers a wide range of Ilish special festive menu...

Kolkata is a land of cultural diversity; A city where language and food are said to change at every turn..In fact, Hilsa has long moved beyond its traditional boundaries....

Oh Calcutta chef’s special menu includes Ilish fish finger, mochar Ilish, smoked hilsha, posto narkol Ilish, bhapa ilish etc

Lish fish finger Almost similar to other fish fingers.. , it is boneless hilsa crumbed and fried till golden brown, and served with mustard mayonnaise

Mochar ilish This item definitely gives you a different flavour Mocha or banana flower has a few exotic preparations in Bengali cuisine..A layer of boneless fish is covered by some spiced and perfectly cooked banana flowers.

Posto narkol ilish This dish is a little different..a mix of sweet and spicy flavours.. with having a creamy texture...this item definitely makes you salivate..

Bhapa ilish This item is quite famous among all Bengali people because of its rustic charm and flavours. where fresh hilsa is marinated in special mustard-coconut-yogurt paste and steamed in a good old tiffin box

Smoked hilsha Smoked ilish is one of the unique dishes I have ever tried this item prepared with secret sauce... maybe the mix of mustard and brown sauce.. a Smokey flavour definitely gives you a different flavour in your taste buds

You can also order their hilsa festival meal box the meal box consisted of ilish paturi, ilish beguner jhol, doi murgi, aloo phulkopi, bhaja moonger daal, aloo bhaja, rice, Tomato chutney, chaler payes, malpua..

Meal box...

What an experience! After a long time an almost perfect experience. But before sharing in detail one point which disappointed. I had originally planned to visit to have their non Vegetarian thali for lunch.Arrived there around quarter past 1 but was told that Thali was not possible at that time, either have to wait half an hour 45 min or can get the thali item in regular plate, the reason they gave that they have limited number of Thali set and all are engaged with a large group of guests. They were all including the manager was were sorry for that.So I skipped the plan for Thali and went ahead with A La Carte menu and didn’t disappointed with the food .Now let’s get back to review.

Location: Situated inside Forum mall at Elgin road, easy to access, also around 10 min walk from Netaji Bhawan metro.

Ambience: Perfect ambience with pleasant lighting and comfortable sitting arrangements, not congested.

Service: Everyone from server to manager were too courteous, specially manager Mr Amit,he was too sorry for not able to serve the Thali. During the meal they were too attentive and asking about food or any new requirements that I had to request them to let me concentrate on food, will certainly call them if anything required or wrong.

Food: Now comes to main part,I ordered Mutton Kosha,Bhetki Paturi with Govindobhog bhog rice. They serves papad,Raita and savory tomato chutney complementary.Among all Bhetki paturi was perfect,Bhetki fish marinated in coriander based marination and steamed in banana leaf. Mutton Kosh was good too and went well with steamed rice, the rice was full of fragrance. Ended the meal with Nolen Gurer IceCream which was a perfect way to end the feast.

For few price may be on little higher side but as per my experience it’s justified, its value for money with the ambience, service and food quality they are providing.

Overall a certainly a recommended place and will certainly visit again,this...

Never ever go for buffets in Oh Calcutta!!! It's so disappointing to see that such a place of repute could stoop so low with their standards in the name of a Jamai soshti special buffet spread...the food on the spread starting with the mutton, fish, chicken were all too salty n unpalatable...the fish was as skinny as could be...it seemed their only objective was to pull in as much people as possible with an offering of such mediocre food...not expected from a brand name like them...there advertising n marketing for jamai soshti buffet was on point but they completely failed to deliver...we couldn't eat any of the mains n when my mom gave the feedback to a senior staff he tried to make amends but the behaviour of another staff who was in charge I guess was not hospitable at all...he very pointedly said to my mom that we were there for 2 hrs( as if we didn't have the right to stay so long so they can fetch in more customers) why didn't we say before when he had supposedly asked once( i guess before we had even tasted the mains)...as if it was all our fault that their food standard was so low...he asked if he could get something from the dessert that was already there ( as if we cant get it ourselves) My mom asked for ice cream n he acted as if he was doing a big favour by offering an ice cream which was not in buffet...ofcourse only vanilla available..no other flavours..according to him..thats what he said not very politely again when my mom asked for butterscotch...he separately asked me if I wanted also!!!! That was laughable. Nonetheless the senior staff made amends by packing a couple of items for us but truly that's no compensation for the kind of experience we had...we truly wanted to enjoy the food experience n hospitality there but that was not to be...therefore I would strongly advice to avoid buffet in...

Oh! Calcutta is premium brand serving typical Bengali cuisine along with a touch of fusion across top cities in the country. I visited recently and tried out items from their ongoing River Water Fish Festival Menu. Items tried •Topshe Macher Cutlet (Strongly Recommended) This particular item for me was the Showstopper! An absolute must must try if you are visiting! Despite it being a fried item, it had no oil on it. •Aar Macher (Catfish) Chilli Fish (Strongly recommended) This too was unique & lip-smacking. Who would have thought that you could have Aar mach in such a form! •Bhetki Macher Orly This too was good. But since this is readily available at most places so it sort of took a back seat. •Rice, Dal & Jhuri Aloo Bhaja •Rosun Bhapa Hamour Mach (Recommended) Though I couldn't figure out which fish it was (only to blame my lack of knowledge regarding fish) but this too tasted good. It had a sort of a pickle-y taste & the flavours of garlic was a bit overpowering. So, if you like garlic like me then you will definitely like it. •Sorshe Bata Boroli Mach (Strongly Recommended) I had previously had this fish just once during my visit to North Bengal. This is a typical North Bengal fish & can hardly be found in Kolkata so firstly kudos to the management for sourcing the fish in Kolkata. The fish is sweet in taste & was a match made in heaven in the sorshe bata gravy! Note : This fish has a bit more bones than other. •Notun Gurer Sandesh Puff (Recommended) This was a one of a kind item. Perfect ending to this sumptuous bong fishy meal! Lastly, I would say is that each fish was very fresh (which was quite evident from the colour & taste) & the fish festival menu is definitely worth the price!
