Lala's Café in Leh [mid-september visited] is a charming oasis that perfectly captures the heart of Ladakhi culture and hospitality. Located in a side street of the old town, among traditional Ladakhi houses and overlooking the imposing Leh Palace, the café offers a unique atmosphere that feels like a cross between a living room and a cultural retreat. Upon entering, you will be greeted with the smell of fresh Ladakhi tea and the friendly smiles of the owners, who have established the café in their own home. The interior is simple but cozy, with low-hanging wooden beams, traditional carpets, and colorful cushions on the low sofas. 2023-2024 The cafe is down a lane just off Leh Main Market Street. It's worth the small trek just for the cool building it's set up inside. Truly, it's a stunning little building, with a massive sense of history and heritage attached to it. However, the additional advantage is that the coffee and food are EXCEPTIONALLY awesome, made with fresh ingredients, and made with love and care. I enjoyed the experience greatly, and I'll go back often to check out the rest of their menu. 5 Stars âââââ
Additional info: The cafe is run by an NGO that's been around since 2003, with their focus on the repair and maintenance of old heritage buildings. The cafe has been around since 2008, and it's run as a non-profit, with all the profits going into maintaining, renewing, and repairing...
