The Most Horrible Dining Experience Ever – Beware!

I had one of the worst restaurant experiences ever on a Sunday evening at what claims to be a "fine dining" establishment. We were a group of three and ordered both soup and starters. Shockingly, the starters were served before the soup — which completely defeats the basic idea of a proper dining sequence. When we pointed this out, the waiter simply took the soup away and brought it back cold after 5 minutes. Yes, the same soup, not even reheated.

To make matters worse, the Crab Meat Soup had zero crab meat and was completely bland — no seasoning, no salt. When I complained, the waiter just noted it in a diary and walked away. No apology, no explanation — nothing.

The starters were equally disappointing — flavorless and far from what you'd expect at a so-called upscale venue. The service? Absolutely appalling. Not once did anyone come to refill our water glasses or clear the plates. Despite the restaurant being barely 30% occupied, the staff were standing around laughing and chatting amongst themselves while customers were clearly unhappy.

We finally asked to speak with their Senior Restaurant Manager, Mr. Tenzing, hoping for some accountability. What we got instead was arrogance and zero empathy. Not only did he not offer an apology, but he was later overheard telling his staff that we "just came here to complain and get free food" — a comment my wife heard clearly while standing nearby. Disgraceful.

We weren’t the only ones unhappy — other tables around us were also expressing complaints, all of which were met with silence or indifference.

Adding to this nightmare — they are illegally charging GSTon top of Service Charge. Let me make this clear for everyone reading this: Service Charges are not mandatory. You are within your rights to refuse to pay it. Please stand your ground if you face similar behavior.

Staff like Mr. Tenzing are the reason hospitality suffers in such places. They set the tone for poor service and disrespectful behavior, and it reflects clearly in the untrained, unprofessional attitude of the entire team.

I had an awful experience with terrible service and poor quality food. I wanted to order food for my son's birthday. They told me that I could order a combo to which agreed. A day before the party they said that they don't provide the combos on Sunday. After discussing this, they agreed on sending the combos but they said that they will send it at 4pm when I wanted it for dinner. So this means that the food would be cold by dinner. I pleaded so much to ask them to send it late but they refused stating they have other orders. So basically, my order wasn't important. They also told me that they would give me a 10% discount if I come and pick up my order but later they told me that they cannot give me this offer. After this, they delivered three combos less. I had to send the delivery boy to collect the other combos. My trouble didn't end here. There were three spring rolls in some combos and two spring rolls in some. I messaged them and sent pictures as well but they just ignored it because they had already received the money right, so they didn't bother any more. The food was also very poor. I was so dissapointed that my guests had to eat this. Would never ever recommend ordering from the Bandra China Gate. Horrible taste and horrible service. Just a...

China Gate is one the most loved and preferred place for Chinese food by me & family members. Also a great place to host parties or out with friends.

Have been going here from past 20 years and the quality of food is same, hospitality is great and archive is good.

Food served is not only is good in taste but the presentation is amazing and not as oily as compared to other food in Chinese joints.

Ambience is good and the staff is polite and humble and what I like is neither very cooperative. By mistake I ordered fresh lime and when they got it on the table I asked them to cancel and get me diet coke and they did it willfully without any hesitation and I really appreciate this !!!
