Mumbai's Iconic Restaurant for Seafood Lovers!
Since 1942, Modern Hindu Hotel has been people's favourite in serving excellent quality vegetarian and non-vegetarian food at pocket-friendly prices.
Surprisingly to this day, the restaurant has maintained its standards and quality of food at very reasonable rates.
The restaurant has limited seating and is very simple in terms of decor. It does have an AC and Non-AC section. If you are going for dinner here on any day of the week, you find the place jam-packed, so make sure you arrive as soon as they open in the evening to get your seats.
The staff at Modern Hindu Hotel is very welcoming and make help you guide through the menu for the best choice. Their menu has a variety of Maharashtrian, Punjabi, Malvani, and Modern Indian dishes.
I strongly recommend the Maharashtrian, Malvani, and Thaali dishes here, they are an absolute experience with a roller coaster of spicy, sweet and tangy flavours throughout your meal. Always end your meal with a Solkadi, trust me on this!
For the starter, I went for their Chef Special Modern Indian dishes. Chicken Choza Kebab and Jhinga Samarkand. Both are marinated with a spicy coriander kick and served over a grill and are simply a treat to your eyes.
Chicken Choza Kebab is a chicken wing stuffed with keema and garnish with a Tandoori cream sauce. Loves the creativity here. The pieces are juicy and delicious.
Jhinga Samarkand are small-sized tandoori prawns elevated with coriander flavours.
Go for a Thaali in your main course!! Thaalis here is impeccable even though they have simple components like curry, rice, Solkadi, and a dry or masala dish as per your selection.
Fried Surmai and Bombil are my favourites hence I naturally went for those.
They have a Mango festival going on for desserts which has a Mango Stuffed Ice Cream and a Mango Mastani are made very creatively.

Read moreI recently visited Modern Hindu Hotel which is located in Lower Parel and was blown away by the delicious food and excellent service.
This restaurant is legendary and serving the happiness since 1942. Basically, they serves North Indian, Malwani, Mughlai and Chinese Cuisine. I have to try their Malwani cuisine, so I had stick to Malwani only.
Must Try Dishes:
Bombil Fry : Served with mint chutney. So delicious and crispy. Great start of the meal.
Prawns Rawa Fry: It was absolutely delicious! The dish was cooked to perfection, with the prawns being juicy and flavorful. I also loved the accompanying mint chutney, which added a refreshing burst of flavor to the dish. The portion size was generous and the dish was reasonably priced.
Surmai Tawa Fry: Outstanding!! Surmai was perfectly cooked and coated with a delicious blend of spices, which gave it a wonderful flavor and aroma.
Chicken Sagoti Thali: The chicken was cooked to perfection, with a tender and juicy texture, and the Sagoti gravy was rich and flavorful. The thali also included a variety of sides, including rice, vade/ bhakri, papad, egg masala and my favorite Solkadhi which perfectly complemented the chicken dish. The portion size was generous and the price was reasonable, making it a great value for money.
Pomfret Thali: Pomfret Thali was especially outstanding, with the fish fry being the highlight of the meal.
The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that we had a great dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was also lovely, with a cozy and traditional feel that added to the overall experience.
Overall, I highly recommend Modern Hindu Hotel to anyone looking for a truly authentic and delicious Malwani meal in Lower Parel area. I would love to visit here again to try different varieties of dishes.
