Sammy sosa, Oshiwara
Location- Located in the middle of the area in oshiwara which has become really famous in recent years for food. Lots of new food outlets are opening in this area and this place is on the main road so easily assessable. (4.5/5)
Look and Feel- Restaurant is divided in two floors, ground and first. Ground floor got live TV screening for your sports love. Lights are really dark than it supposed to be I feel. It’s a restaurant and not a resto bar to have dark dining area as it gives more positivity to the place. Don’t have much to say about the interiors to be honest. Dining place is little cramped up. More tables were adjusted than expected I feel. (3.5/5)
Service- Extraordinary service I felt. Each guest was well taken care by their staff that was the highlight of the evening. Staff is so humble and ever welcoming. Big thumps up to the staff of the Sammy Sosa. (5/5)
Food and Beverage- This section revolves around Mexican cuisine mainly. They are specialised in Mexican, Italian food. Menu card was total turnoff for me, it is so confusing and too many things written on it so guests must be getting confused with the dishes they serve. Bar got few of the signature cocktails and beer options which certainly you can look for as they got few of the amazing and well known imported beers. (4/5)
MOJITO (Cocktail) - A classic drink made in best way. A rum based cocktail made with mint, lemon juice and sugar syrup. Classic and refreshing. (4.5/5)
KITKAT SHAKE- Trending shakes in town shake chocolate shake made with kitkat, served in a mason jar and topped with ice cream scoop, chocolate syrup and kitkat. (4.5/5)
NACHO CHINOS(Mexican Appetisers)- A freshly homemade corn flour nacho chips topped with cheese sauce, chilli beans, chopped chicken, tomato salsa, red cabbage, sour cream and sprouts. Nachos were crunchy enough and huge in quantity. Enjoy it with your favourite beer. (4/5)
WHACKO TACO (Mexican Appetiser) - Corn flour crispy taco shells stuffed with shredded spicy chicken, red cabbage, iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese and served along with tomato salsa and sour cream. Really nice dish, spicy shredded chicken was giving the best punch which was needed. Must order dish. (4.5/5)
MEXICAN PIZZA- A crispy double layered pizza made with flour tortilla, topped with mix peppers, cheese and refried beans. Somehow I didn’t enjoy this dish at all stuffing was not wow and too much of cheese on top. Can give a miss to this dish. (3/5)
CHICKEN CHARMULLA SKEWERS- Boneless chicken legs marinated in charmulla (North African blend made with coriander, paprika, onions, garlic, parsley etc) and then cooked. Nice and simple dish in which chicken was moist enough and it was served along with side salad which I really enjoyed. (4.5/5)
FISH KEBABS- A mix of fish, coriander, lime, mint, cumin formed in kebab shaped and cooked. Delicate dish but had really strong flavours and was very salty to be honest. (2/5)
SANTA FE CHICKEN- Chicken breast marinated in garlic, thyme and topped with lots of grilled vegetables like baby corn, peppers, green olives, carrots, zucchini and served with sauce made from red wine, crushed jalapeno and pepper sauce. Really very well thought dish which was really loaded with lot of vegetables but would have loved little starch to go with the dish. (4/5)
CHOCOLATE BROWNIE WITH ICE CREAM- Guess nothing much needs to be said about this dessert, perfect with warm brownie, ice cream and chocolate syrup. (4.5/5)
To sum up- A cool place to go for couple of beers and some Mexican food. Would love more brightness in the restaurant to give more positivity to the place. Few of the dishes are done very well and few need to have a look...
Read moreOne of such restaurants which have the top shelf recall when one asks for nice restaurants serving Mexican food. That's Sammy Sosa. I visited the Oshiwara outlet near Mega Mall. Been here since quite some time now. Love how they have given a beach kind of feel at the entrance with a surf board and some palm trees on the side. You walk in the restaurant and it exuberates vibrancy and colorful. The entire place is split in 4 sections, 2 of them on mezzanine. Both need to be accessed via different stairs. It has nice yellow bright LED which reads Vivo Mexico. A big mexican hat is kept at the entrance, a good photo prop. Greeted and welcomed by the staff.
Talking about what all we tried here -
We began with couple of refreshing mocktails - Lemongrass Cooler and Pink Paradise. As name suggests former is a mix of Lemongrass and Lemon fizz, had a cooling effect and refreshing. The later was a mix of Watermelon and Strawberry, nicely mixed. A great start and we were really looking forward for our meal to begin. We started with the highlight of the evening - Chacho Nachos. Crispy Tortilla Chips topped with black beans, tomatoes, jalapenos and olives. We called for an entire dips platter along with this - so we got Tomato Salsa, Mango Salsa, Spicy Jalapeno Dip, Sour Cream and Avocado Guacamole. This is just divine, you can't miss this at Sammy Sosa.
The other starters were awesome too - called for Quesadillas - soft tortilla wrap stuffed with spicy habenaro and cottage cheese and tossed with herbs. Can be on the spicier side, but that's the fun of having Mexican food. Again must have, superb. Godzilla Garlic was garlic bread superloaded with cheese and jalapenos. You have to have this with ketchup and it tastes yum! Last we tried the Chimichangas - deep fried tortilla with mixed vegetable stuffing. Amongst all, I would personally recommend to go for Quesadillas and Godzilla Garlic.
We took a break before we started on the mains and called for a Virgin Kiwi Margarita. Super job by the bar tender, definitely my compliments. Actual Kiwi fruit pieces and the combination with that fine ice with syrup. Slowly moving towards the bottom and when you sip this along with the salt present on the rim of the glass. Wow! If you like Kiwi, just go for this!
From the mains - we called for Peri Peri Please - which was Cilantro Herb Rice and green vegetables tossed in Peri Peri Sauce. Delicious and welcome break from the regular stuffing that one finds in most Mexican delicacies. I personally loved it and I am sure every rice person would too. And finally the Mama's Enchiladas - Veg variant - refried beans, fresh vegetables on a baked hot plate and loaded with cheese, served with some brown rice. Enchiladas were quite different not sweet which you may find in a lot of places.
We ended our meal with Chocolate Mud Pie. Crumbled brownie which is stuffed with chocolate. And you break this brownie and chocolate oozes out. Best part comes along with vanilla ice-cream which breaks the chocolate monotony. Don't think could have found a better way to end our meal. The entire meal that I had at Sammy Sosa was just flawless and fabulous.
A special shout-out for Mr. Rajiv, who was extremely courteous, polite, helpful and always carried a smile on the face while serving. Thank you for hosting and we definitely had a...
Read moreThe food SUCKS. No other way to put it. If you rely on the good reviews for this place, then you will SUFFER like I did. That's the price you pay for listening to SHEEPLE.
My mom was in town for a few days, and wanted to treat me to dinner...being the greedy pig that I am, I decided to look for the highest rated restaurant on Zomato - Money is no object.
After seeing a rating of 4.6, and 2000+ glowing reviews, I decided to go for gold and ordered the following -
The Boatman's Dream Delightful Mexican Veg Pizza
Let me tackle these gastronomic disasters on a case-by-case basis.
The attached PIC will speak for itself, and any sane human being should not require anymore explanation, as to why they should NOT order from Sammy Sosa's, but I'm in a particularly bad mood, so I'll tell you exactly what was wrong with it - EVERYTHING.
The rice tasted like it was tossed in Garam Masala...LOTS of cheap garam masala. The problem with these restaurants serving "world cuisine" is that their chef's are unskilled and apathetic. Unskilled in the art of serving up good food, and apathetic to the suffering they unleash upon the poor souls who are dumb enough to pay for the food they "cook."
So basically, the Machhwara's Nightmare consists of Rice + Rajma + Garam Masala + Bits of Olives + More Garam Masala + Tomato Sauce + Overcooked Prawns + Even more Garam Masala, thrown in a handi, OVERCOOKED till kingdom come and then gently drizzled all over with lemon juice, to mask the awful taste of the resulting witches brew. In the end, all you can taste is garam masala, tomato sauce and a mild fishy taste, which may have been prawns, a long long time ago.
If you don't believe me, then check out the picture - It's straight from the box, and I didn't have to photoshop it, for it to look this bad. I mean those prawns belong in a FORENSIC LAB, not in a plate of food for chrissake!!
Yes, thank god I couldn't taste this pizza. After sampling the machhwara's nightmare, I think Sammy Sosa did me a favor by baking the taste right out of this disaster.
Thank you Sammy Sosa. I owe you guys one.
I'm tired of typing, and my brain is overwhelmed by the number of expletives pouring into it, everytime I think of this sorry excuse for a pizza. I'm so mad, I'm gonna have a stroke if I think too much about this miserable, tasteless, overpriced &$#&$%!
Forget it, I'm not gonna give myself heartburn AND a stroke trying to review a miserable dish like this.
Check out the picture that I've attached, and you'll know in a glance, what a thousand words can't describe succinctly enough - This pizza isn't worthy of the money, or the time that you would spend eating it. Hell, it ain't even worthy of the name Pizza!
Do yourself a favour and order from Domino's...or even Shreejee's. Yeah, you know how much this sucks, when I tell you to order a pizza from Shreejee's over this rip-off.
And finally, the moral of the story -
Don't trust the good reviews for Sammy Sosa - Trust your tastebuds, your wallet, and your common sense....
