This place is one of a kind with it’s own authenticity, sophistication and an overall serene vibe. The name Sana-di-ge is a Tulu interpretation of the large brass lamp at the entrance.
This place majors in serving Konkan coastal food and delights from Dakshin Kannada, Maharashtra and Kerala. Their hospitality is undeniably welcoming right from the entrance where you’re greeted the Indian way, to showing you your bay and providing a personalised service at your table, till you bid your good byes.
To start with food, we had a complimentary basket of Rice Papad served with an assortment of chutneys. The papad was crispy and fresh, not too greasy and a tad bit spicy. I enjoyed it along with the chutneys.
Then we tried a tester of 4 drinks from their menu: Elaneer Shunti Nimbehannu, Punar Puli, Kokam Kadi and Sambharam. While all of them had a good taste, my personal favourite was Punar Puli. The Nimbehannu was very refreshing with the taste of coconut water and a dash of lime and mint. The Kokam Kadi was earthly. The Sambharam was good, but a little bland.
We moved on to the soups next. The Nuggekai Saaru was basically a drumstick lentil soup. Quite simple yet nice to have for a cold weather. The Kurumilagu Rasam was the real delight though. A tad bit of tang and an appropriate amount of spiciness added to the taste.
One of the things about this place is that, if you aren’t familiar with the names of the food or delicacies, you can always reach out to the staff or the chef to suggest you what to order, based on your taste preferences.
We tasted several starters, but among my favourites were Ananas Ragi & Bija Shavige, and Kali Mirchi. The former is basically a salad with pineapple and nuts with honey and chilli flakes served on vermicelli. I’ve to admit it was kinda addictive. And so was the later, lotus stem tossed in pepper and garlic with curry leaves. The Kempu Bezule was a very sober and least spicy baby corn dish, could be proffered for kids or people with sensitive tastebuds. The Alambe Sukka on the other hand was a little too spicy Mushroom dish.
I personally loved the combination of Neer Dosa with Ghee Roast. Ghee roast being on of their specialities, you shouldn’t miss out on this one.
For main course, we had a Sanadige Basket consisting of Manglorean Appam, Moode, Pundi and Neer dosa. They also served us a Kerala Appam, which is not included in the basket but can be ordered separately. To accompany with it, we had Malabar Stew, Ulli Theeyal and Alambu Arepu. And not to forget some of Thengina Kai Anna. Both the appams were good, but I would personally recommend the Kerala appam over the Mangalorean appam. Pundi and Moode are both basically semolina cooked in different ways, which makes Pundi seem little heavier in terms of appetite. And Need dosa is a very thin rice dosa which has a subtle taste. Based on the spiciness of these you gotta choose what to pair with it. The stew has a lighter plainer taste to be combined with something that is a bit more saltier. While the Shallot Curry(Ulli Theeyal) and Mushroom Curry (Alambu Arepu) is to be paired with something that is plainer. You could also eat these curry with Thengina Kayi Anna which is basically sumptuous rice with the coconut, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
The best part about all the food that they serve is that, the ingredients are all locally sourced and then shipped to the restaurant via air multiple times in a week. So you can literally taste the authenticity in their delicacies. Adding to the vibe of genuinity is all the crockery, which are designed in the old Indian ways giving the real luxury feels.
Last, but not the least, we had the dessert. And this was like an elixir - peculiarly refreshing, very earthy and… I’m kinda running out of words to describe it. The Elaneer Payasam is basically tender coconut cream with coconut pulp, so good!
I would strongly recommend this place. Family dinners, business lunches, fancy dates - this is a place you have to try for...

Kori Ghee Roast: A traditional dish from Shetty household and coast of Kudla, this was a rich pan tossed Chicken cubes in clarified butter and authentic spices. Although I am not a big fan of Ghee, but the chicken was cooked so well, it was tender and juicy. A MUST TRY DISH.
The Mains followed were delectable and enriched with robust flavors.
Nilgiri Kori Korma
Originating from the coast of Kudla, this tender chicken is cooked in mint and coriander mix with coconut milk and curry Leaves. It was so tender and succulent and flavours of mint and coconut took it to a different level. We paired it with Malabar Paratha and it was a Wow combination. Highly RECOMMENDED ✌️
Prawns Balchaoi
I somehow have a palate closer to goan cuisine and this dish was a Win Win for me. A traditional dish of Goa, this dish had a distinct Goan Vinegar and whole spices Flavor that made it “Dish of the day for me”. We paired it with Neer Dosa and it made excellent combination. Highly Recommended ✌️.
Mangalorean Mutton Curry
Traditional recipe from the Mangalorean region that was fabulous. Lamb was cooked so tender that it was falling off the bone. The clean flavors of the spices blended with lamb was robust yet light. Paired with Appam and boiled rice, this dish was a winner. Highly Recommended ✌️.
The Traditional Deserts are my weakness and they have made it Sinfully delicious.
Elaneer Paysam
Special Paysam cooked with coconut milk and it's fresh cream, sprinkled with fresh pista and cardamom is served in a coconut shell. Not it is just beautiful to look at, but it's texture, taste and Flavor were Divine. Highly Recommended ✌️
Rasmalai
Although this is a common sweet served all across, but somehow I found it as one of the best preparation till date. Creamy with added top layers of thin cream, this is delicious and super soft rasmalai. A MUST TRY.
