Update: It's really unfortunate the owner took offense to my review. Usually, a shop would aim to try and do better and be better, but the owner was defensive in her response to my review. I was sharing my honest experience with the service provided to me. The reason I went in was because the stop looked really nice and I wanted a cold drink since it was a hot day.
Even though I didn't get a chance to dine in and experience the atmosphere, I would have ordered the Ginger Ale and even some pastries or chocolates and enjoyed the experience if the price on the menu matched what the employees verbally told me, But, it didn't and the menu didn't have taxes included. I just didn't have a good experience. I wish the owner well but have no regrets about speaking up and sharing my own personal experience.
I went into Bouche Sucree to order a cold drink. It was really hot outside and I wanted a cold drink.
When I walked into Bouche Sucree, there was no customer in the shop. A bunch of employees were sitting in the back corner together. They all stood up when they saw me and asked me what I wanted.
There were a bunch of menus on the glass counter and I ordered a Ginger Ale / Tonic water from their menu.
At first they said they didn't have the drink but then went to the back and provided a small can of Schweppes Ginger Ale soft drink.
On the menu, the price for the Ginger Ale wasn't clear. There was a white torn sticker over the price for Ginger Ale on several of the menus. It looked like it was 150 rupees but it wasn't clear because the price was hand written and the white sticker was torn and covered the price.
1 woman and 1 man were behind the cash register in the corner. And 1 woman was in front of the cash register. They were discussing something which I didn't understand.
I asked them how much for the Ginger Ale. They said to wait. The 3 of them kept discussing something among themselves. I asked them again how much. Finally, they told me the price was 198 rupees for a small can of Schweppes Ginger Ale.
I decided to walk out the door as I knew they just provided a higher price or whatever price they were discussing among themselves. As I walked out, I heard a woman chuckle.
DO NOT go into this store. They will rip you off because you are a tourist and think you don't know any better. If they were honest, I would have ordered pastries/chocolates and enjoyed my time in their stop, but just the fact they were standing there discussing what I assumed to be the price of the Ginger Ale for quite some time, left a bad taste in my mouth. Really distasteful which is why there were no customers...
Read moreMy second visit after a failed first visit. 2 days ago I walked into this lovely cafe and impressed by the layout and deco but most importantly air conditioning that worked. A lady was ahead of me in the queue attempting to pay her Bill and there 3 other ladies seated. I waited and waited and waited for a full 15 minutes while 4 members of staff stood behind the counter serving this one lady. Finally another member of staff who came from back of house took payment and settled the lady's Bill. Still no service or staff. as all staff turned their back on customers and went about their own business. The seated ladies called out their orders from the table across the cafe..Immediately 2 members of staff attended to the ladies and I was stood there while other staff were not bothered or interested in waiting customers still left waiting. Patience has its limits. I left. How many staff does it take to serve one person. In this case 3 maybe 4 but only if you are female and more so if you were white. Today I returned, the cafe was empty, not a soul. Good I thought maybe I would get the service that was lacking on my first visit. I waited for 10 minutes until a member of staff turned up, no greeting just told me to wait while he called for another staff member. Finally I was served. The service was poor lacking any clarity on description of cakes displayed. Prices not fully displayed. Flies on the items on open display. I ordered a cake but was not asked or offered drinks. Front of house in this cafe wax again abandoned. Quality of cake was excellent. Expensive and definitely above average prices. But its quite clear from my first visit that the Pondicherry male malaise or illness among waiting staff is indeed prevalent. Unless you are white or female, do not expect service. Walk away. Vote with your feet. Avoid.. The owners are either disinterested or could not care less...
Read moreNestled away in Pondicherry, Bouchee Sucree Cafe is a cozy and unassuming gem that left me pleasantly surprised. This delightful cafe might not be widely known, but it offers some of the best croissants I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.
At Bouchee Sucree, I indulged in the butter croissant, chocolate croissant, and cheese croissant, and each one was a masterpiece. The freshness and flakiness of the croissants were truly exceptional. With every bite, I could savor the buttery goodness, and the flavors were simply divine. These croissants alone are worth a visit to this hidden gem.
Apart from the croissants, I also had the pleasure of trying their potato wedges, which were nothing short of amazing. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked to a crispy perfection, making for a delightful side dish.
The ice tea at Bouchee Sucree was a refreshing and visually appealing treat. The presentation was impeccable, and the taste lived up to the high standard set by its appearance. It was a perfect thirst quencher on a warm day.
I also sampled their special omelette, and it proved to be a fulfilling and satisfying dish. The omelette was cooked to perfection, packed with flavors, and served with a side of toast or bread.
One minor suggestion would be to request less sugar in the cold coffee, as it may be a bit on the sweeter side for some tastes. Customizing your order will ensure it meets your preferences perfectly.
The staff at Bouchee Sucree were polite, professional, and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience at the cafe.
In a city full of overhyped places, stumbling upon Bouchee Sucree was a stroke of luck. It surpassed my expectations in every way, offering a cozy ambiance, exceptional croissants, delectable potato wedges, and refreshing ice tea. While it may not be widely recognized, it certainly deserves recognition for its...
