Now, let's talk about the food! The Pongal I had at Indian Coffee House was simply outstanding. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and each bite was a delightful combination of warmth and spice. The interior exudes a retro vibe with walls adorned by vintage memorabilia, faded photographs, and old newspaper clippings, creating an atmosphere that feels like a delightful time capsule. Despite its modest décor, the space is warm and inviting, with simple wooden furniture that adds to the authentic, no-frills ambiance. I ordered a cup of their strong, aromatic filter coffee, which was brewed to perfection, and paired it with a plate of classic snacks—crispy dosas and spicy samosas—that reflected the culinary heritage this establishment is known for. The flavors were robust and satisfying, a testament to the Coffee House’s reputation for offering hearty, affordable fare. Read moreThere's always this one restaurant or cafe in every city that's been there for generations and it's supposed to be the most iconic spot in the city for the great food and affordable price. I love visiting such places and experience their food. Indian coffee house was supposed to be that place for Pondicherry but unfortunately everything about this place was mediocre at best.
The food wasn't bad but it wasn't any good either. Everything tasted bland and it seemed like they put in the least amount of effort to make it.
I was in Pondicherry for 5 days and I visited the Indian coffee house for both breakfast and lunch on two separate days and was disappointed both times. I'm going to be honest, during my 5 days stay in Pondicherry this place ranks at the last place out of all the restaurants and cafes I've visited when it comes to taste and service. The affordable price is the only good thing they have to offer
The waiters/servers seemed pretty rude as well. They all had this annoyed look on their face and a very unfriendly attitude, like they are doing us a favor. Even saw a waiter talking rudely to another customer just because they asked something about a particular dish. They know they've been there for years now and because of that its basically like a government job where they won't get fired or have any consequences.
Not sure if this place has always been this way or there's been this recent downwards shift in overall quality of this place. They seriously need to improve their services and their food.
If you want to you could visit this place once but i wouldn't really...
