Le petit four is a bakery cum restaurant - located in Whitetown - between the Villa Shanthi restaurant and Grand hotel d’europe. Made in an old Chettinad house - this place has a beautiful vibe to it.
Came here for a late night dinner with my mother and twin.
What I ordered: Prawn cocktail Roast Garlic chicken (a must try) Lamb shanks (a must try) Snickers (a must try)
PRAWN COCKTAIL - a very light and simple salad. I really liked the fact that despite the three prawn pieces above, there were finely chopped prawn pieces in the cocktail salad. I also liked the fact that there was less mayo in the dressing.
LAMB SHANK - a lovely main course and totally worth trying. The lamb was cooked to perfection! The meat literally fell off the bone. The sauce that came with the lamb shank was filled with flavour and was delicious.
ROAST GARLIC CHICKEN - yet another amazing dish! The chicken was cooked really well. It was nice and soft. The flavours were subtle and very nice. The chicken is given with a garlic confit. The combination of garlic confit and roast chicken worked really well together!
The roast garlic chicken and lamb shank are given with roast vegetables and herb rice.
SNICKERS - a lovely end to an amazing meal. It has a chocolate and peanut exterior with a mousse and cake filling. Tasted exactly like a snickers bar - loved it. We finished the dessert really fast - a definite must try here.
The ambience was very elegant and nice. There are both indoor and outdoor seating. The glasswork and mirror ceilings on the indoor seating made the place look super gorgeous.
The service was really good. When we came half an hour before the closing time - they accommodated us really well. The owner made sure we got a seating in the indoor dining space which I really liked. They have very accommodating staff. Special credits to - Sharan Kumar. He was our server for the night. He brought our food on time with no delays. His service was very good.

Read moreI visited this café on a weekday afternoon, and only 2-3 tables were occupied. I politely requested to be seated near a plug point so I could work while enjoying the food and ambiance. However, they blatantly refused, stating that laptops were not allowed. The café was not busy, so I was confused by their refusal. As I was leaving, I noticed a foreigner using a laptop and questioned the staff about the apparent discrimination against me as an Indian. They seemed flustered and eventually allowed me to use my laptop, but the initial refusal was unprofessional and disappointing.
I had visited this café before and found the food to be overhyped but okay. However, this experience put me off. Many people visit Pondicherry for its ambiance, and enjoying cafes often involves reading, chatting, or working. If the café allows people to linger for hours with just a coffee, why not allow me to order a meal and work for a couple of hours?
This kind of discrimination also occurred at Coramandal café. It's frustrating for solo travelers like myself who may want to work or read while enjoying the café experience. It's a shame that the hospitality industry in Pondicherry seems to prioritize quick turnover and biased service towards foreigners over providing a welcoming environment for everyone.
If you plan to visit Pondicherry, I recommend checking which cafes allow you to work. My previous visit here was much more pleasant, but the current atmosphere is...
