Malwani Solkadhi

Malwani solkadhi is located in the khau galli area of sadashiv peth, as the name suggest the restaurant primarily offers malwani cuisine along with some recently introduced option in kebabs. Malwani Solkadhi was operating in Karvenagar area under the name Solkadhi which later shifted to Sadashiv peth area with a new name i.e Malwani Solkadhi. They are operating for almost 2 decades now. #FoodTasting.

Bombil Rawa Fry [Rs 200]: Bombil with crispy coating and flavourful marination was superb in taste and were fried to perfection! #Musthave

Prawns Rawa Fry [Rs 290]: Around 8 medium sized prawns with rawa coating was crispy on the outside and was nicely fried, it wasn’t oily at all however the marination had very mild flavors.

Tandoori Pomfret [APC] : A medium sized pomfret marinate with tandoori masala along with ginger garlic paste was excellent in taste. It was well cooked and the medium spicy marination was full of flavours. #Highlyrecommended

MS Special Thali [Rs 550]: The thali option of surmai / pomfret fry, bangda curry, kolambi sukka, biryani rice, sukat portion, coconut chutney, option of roti / chapatti / tandalachi bhakari / kombadi wade. 2 pieces of tawa fried surmai were done to perfection, nice marination. The bangda curry was medium thick in consistency with burst of flavours, loved it! The kolambi sukka was a stunner, one of the best kolambi preparations which I have had, sukat portion was medium spicy & slightly moist which was also good in taste. We opted for tandalchi bhakari which was freshly prepared and was served hot. They also serve a portion of fish curry which is thin in consistency, trust me it was exceptional in taste. I haven’t had something like this before. This thali is indeed a must have and has lots of seafood variety in it. #TooGood

Mutton Special Thali [Rs 400]: The thali had mutton sukka, mutton curry, portion of Mutton Biryani, Mutton Kheema, Tambada-Pandhara Rassa, Solkadhi, option of roti / chapatti / tandalachi bhakari / kombadi wade. Mutton Sukka portion had a delicious thick masala with well cooked mutton pieces in it, the mutton curry was thin in consistency and was flavourful, the mutton kheeema was excellent in taste with finely minced mutton and had a slightly smokey taste, the kombadi wade were nicely done and were served hot. Pandhara rassa didn’t impress me, it was thin in consistency and was lacking flavours. We skipped mutton biryani portion as we were almost full. The mutton thali is also a good option and worth the price. #Recommended

Solkadhi: The solkadhi was thin in consistency, was slightly salty and had strong flavours of kokum agal. It didn’t suit my tastebuds. Feedback was shared with the owner.

Overall: In spite of minor concerns Malwani solkadhi did impress me and I strongly feel this place is worth the visit. All dishes are medium spicy, presentation of all dishes is pretty simple yet its inviting! Pricing is reasonable and restaurant was hygienic. The owner Mr Gaurav Dange was open to feedback and suggestions and he was a perfect host. Thanks a lot Team Malwani Solkadi for hosting us.

Malwani Solkadhi - Authentic Malwani Cuisine

Visited this restaurant for a dinner with friends. I came to know that they are operating this restaurant for quite a long time. Earlier this was in Karve Nagar. Now, they shifted to Tilak road. Here's my review of the dishes I tried. Rawa Kolambi Fry: These are fried prawns with marination consisting of rawa. Prawns were fresh and tasty. Outer coating of the prawns was crispy. Highly recommended dish. Surmai Fry: Tried both tawa and rava surmai fry. Surmai fish was fresh. Masala was uniform. It was good. Chicken Tandoor: It was very nice surprisingly. I was not expected chicken to be so nice at fish restaurant. But they have made it very good actually. Chicken was fresh and tender. Tandoor was roasted perfectly. Kolambi Masala: Taste of the masala was perfect. Not that spicy but it was up to the mark. Prawns were tasty as well. Kolambi Curry (Malwani): This is prawns curry.It was very nice. Once can judge the dish by having a sip of it. The curry consists of coconut along with amsul (kokam fruit). The taste of amsul makes cury very interesting. Chicken Thali: This consists of chicken curry, chicken fry, chicken kheema along with alani, solkadhi and the special kombdi vade. Taste of each item was perfect. Solkadhi: Perfect dish to end your meal with. This is made with amsul and coconut milk. Taste was perfect. No artificial colour which is good thing.

Service is prompt and quick. Staff is courteous. Seating is comfortable. Don't expect much from ambiance. It is simple and good. Four wheeler parking is not available at the resaurant as it is on the busy street with low space. However, two wheeler parking is available.

Khekda Thali- You get khekda masala, tamdha rassa, pandra rassa, solkadi, chapati/ kombdi vada/ rice bhakri, sukat chutney, cocunut chutney & rice. The portion was really amazing.

Prawns Rawa Fry- The fresh and succulent prawns were delicately coated with a crispy golden rawa exterior that added a delightful crunch with every bite. Accompanied by a squeeze of lemon, the prawn rawa fry was a perfect medley of flavors that left me craving for more.

Moving on to the surmai thali, I was thoroughly impressed by the variety and quality of dishes presented. The spices and marinade complemented the natural richness of the fish, creating a symphony of flavors. The thali consists of fish curry, big piece of fish fry, solkadi, rice, sukat chutney & coconut chutney, chapati.

Overall, the dining experience at Hotel Solkadi was a treat for seafood enthusiasts. The "1+1" offer on the Khekda Thali made the experience even more enjoyable, as it allowed me to savor an array of seafood delights without having to compromise on variety.
