Kalpana Bhel — Restaurant in Pune

I used to go here as a child, almost 40 years ago. Went there for the first time after that time. It's still at the same location. A roadside cart, selling excellent Bhel, for reasonable price. Although I can't claim I still remember the old taste, what I ate yesterday was still excellent. It was also served in a clean plate and with a clean spoon. The quantity was filling. One glance at the salted peanuts that they use, tells you a lot about the attention to quality. You'll find it hard to even buy such large, high quality peanuts in local grocery shops.

One other point is their focus on Bhel. They sell only Bhel (4-5 options in it). No other snacks, unlike the big Chinese restaurant style menus sported by some of their corporatised brethren. These guys have stuck and stayed true to what they do best: Bhel. Go there!

It's in one of the intersections off Tilak Road, just before the big intersection of Tilak and Bajirao Roads (towards the Alaka Talkies end of Tilak Road). It's right outside the famous Girija Snack Bar. Ample two wheeler parking...

Its a very old food joint, famous by its name, " Kalpana Bhel" . Its now being 3rd generation of the family,who runs the business. They provide you Varaities of Bhel and all Chat items like Ragada Puri,Shev puri etc... The food is very tasty, and its unique. No seating arrangement. Take away facility available. Its a cash only food joint. No card payment...

Kalpana bhel is one of the best Bhel I have ever had. It is the small thela outside Girija Hotel. We tried Oli Bhel, bhel was crispy, not too spicy not too sweet, taste was perfect.
