Khandeshi — Restaurant in Pune

The mutton (goat meat) masala was really good! They check for the level of spice you can handle and prepare it accordingly. Its not for the faint-hearted! They even gave us a bit of the curry to taste to judge the spice level as we were unsure. Got the dish packed while visiting the restaurant. There were three let downs though- (1) we were told there would be 16 pieces of mutton in a full serving but it turned out to be less when we opened the packet. (2) The second let down was the ambience...it didn't feel like a family restaurant, despite being located at a prime spot at the traffic lights of the upmarket Balewadi high street. No air-conditioning, open entrance, lots of traffic noise and basic seating with a television blaring songs of the 90s decade - you wouldn't really enjoy the meal as much! It is best to order on an app or get a takeaway unless you don't mind the ambience and (3) The chicken masala was nothing to write home about. The vegeterian (non-paneer) Maharashtrian (bharit, etc.) options looked great, but we haven't tried them. I came to know why it is so important to read reviews before ordering something from zomato. I ordered paneer butter masala and veg Kolhapuri today as few guests were home. The gravy was pathetic both curries had same gravy and had a wierd smell. Paneer was also not fresh. Had chicken thali. Delivered on time. Packing was ordinary, like polybag and foil. The quantity was huge. Sufficient for two persons. Rice was good, but not great. Main, chicken sukka was tasty, a bit pungent for a city dweller. But Khan deshi food has to be pungent. The chicken curry was the BEST dish. Pure Gavran taste. Fulkas were rubbery.

Overall good, but not very good.

Best part was price. Price vs quantity and quality is unbelievable. Would like to try more...
