We recently visited "The Fish Thali Restaurant" on a weekend afternoon to try their fish thalis. We ordered two pomfret thalis, two surmai thalis, and several appetizers. While we enjoyed the prawns fry, everything else was quite disappointing.
First, the service was off to a rough start. The server seemed confused about our order and grew irritable when we asked for clarification. Not only did we have to repeat our order several times, but the service was also incredibly slow. The restaurant has limited seating, which made the wait even more uncomfortable.
Regarding the food, the pomfret in my thali tasted stale. When we pointed this out to the staff, they showed no interest in helping us or addressing the issue. To make matters worse, a group I assume was the owner's family arrived and started chatting loudly right next to our table, disrupting our already poor dining experience.
Overall, it was a terrible experience. The food quality was not up to standard, the service was lacking, and the atmosphere was noisy and chaotic. For the price they charge, you'd expect a much better experience. I can't recommend this place and will not...
Read moreWe had a privilege to visit the restaurant and have their sumptuous thali fresh and hot! I bet, the home delivered thali must not be as soul-pleasing. I highly recommend to viait this restaurant and their thali on-location. It's a small restaurant, run out of a row house (transformed into full-fledged restaurant). The restaurant is a bit difficult to spot, especially the lane it's situated in, especially if you are in a car. Recommend to take a cab or bike to avoid parking issues. Vegetarian menu is not on the list. It's exclusively seafood restaurant. The food is cooked fresh, ingredients are fresh and they are authentic, non-commercial, homely ingredients. The food is soothingly spiced. Not too hot, not too bland, just spiced enough to give you the taste if every i gradient that's used. Do try their komum saar and solkadhi. AUTHENTIC it is. Overall, the experience was too good. The owner herself was sitting on a table nearby. We had a nice chat with her. It was a pleasant and scrumptious experience visiting this small restaurant. Do add it in...
Read moreDined here with my family. This was our first visit. The place was a bit difficult to locate as it is situated in a very nondescript lane, right next to the Balewadi high street road. In the night it was a bit difficult to spot.
The restaurant itself in the lane is easy to spot. It was clean, neat, well decorated and there is valet parking.
The menu is simple and limited and best suited for sea food lovers. Vegetarians have very limited to no options.
We ordered the special surmai thali, fried prawns, Mirgund (type of papad) and prawn khichdi. Every dish was well made. We were pleasantly surprised.
The prawns sautalela, prawns curry, surmai fry were excellent.
Modaks are apparently served on weekends only (Fri-Sun) and so we missed them.
The Fish Thali in Baner is definitely recommended for fish...
