NIPR Pune Shop no. 1 & 3, Chintamani Pride, Near City Pride Multiplex, Kothrud, Pune
NIPR is not just a place or a restaurant. It's an experience. I'm sure those who are regular here would definitely agree to it.
There are quite a few restaurants in Pune that we call as our second homes but NIPR is 'ghar'. It is so attached to the roots wrt. food, overall feel, and experience that you would want to be here every now and then.
From their name to their menu, they have that puneri twist / touch to everything. A permit room (conceptually) that's engages all age groups!
And you won't believe but yes they serve 'Varan, Bhat, Kachrya' 😍 I mean comfort food chi mummy ahe hi dish! Trust me, it's one dish one should never miss on trying..
We tried a few things from their new menu and they are really very good..
*Starters -Chicken Rozali, has stuff kheema! -Chicken Chapli, made using minced chicken! -Chicken Cheese Chilli Kebab, kebab with cheese stuffing -Chicken Kasturi Kebab, mild flavor! The newly introduced kebabs are heart taking. Each one had a different taste, texture and marinade. With tender chicken, absolutely yummy marination , these made our start just right.. Also, Chicken Rozali is our favorite!
*Momo (Veg, Chicken & Mushroom Thecha) A popular street food with vegetables / chicken / mushroom stuffing in a thin cover of plain refined flour with a little runny red chutney. They looked mesmerizing and were perfectly steamed. I personally enjoy crispy or fried ones but their mushroom thecha one is an exception to that. Definitely do try these, they are just delectable!
*Mains -Curry Kaptan, sweet & mild spicy! -Topaz Curry, balanced flavors! -Jungle Curry, spicy one! Coconut based thick gravies which can be paired with plain steam rice or any Indian breads.
-Burma Noodles After varan bhat kachrya we have found our comfort in another dish and it's none other than Burma noodles. A thick coconut based gravy poured over noodles with burst of flavor. It was spicy, sweet, rich and delicious.. #musthave
-Goria Noodles (Goria churana Mera jiya 😅), ya the name is inspired from this song. The noodles had that required thela wala touch.
-Muniya Rice (Herbed Rice) These dishes were equally nice and tasty, especially this herbed rice. The rice was uniquely made in a pesto made from mixed herbs.
*Desserts -Caramel Custard -Gulab Phirni These in-house desserts are another stealers. Nothing but the best!
Overall, as I said it's like apla ghar extremely comforting. In simple words- "Khawanu, peevanu, majja ni life!"
PS- इकडे चकणा फ्री आहे अणि ते पण fryums वैगेरे 😝
घरच्यांनी विचारल काय खाल्लं तर सांगायचं वरण भात काचर्या! ते पण खुश आणि...

Read moreSo, my girlfriend took me to NIPR. Me - forever on a quest to find sasta-sundar bars with cheap beer, free chakna, and music that gets louder and messier as the night goes on.
And my God, NIPR delivered. Located in Kothrud, dangerously close to Barometer (our usual adda), this gem had me questioning my life choices. How had we never been here before? But hey, better late than never.
The vibe? Killer. Dim lighting, Irani cafe style tables with checkered cloth under glass, and mirrors in the ceiling corners so you can admire yourself mid beer swig.
And the music? Don’t even get me started. “Sundara Sundara” and “Mumbhai” is just the warm-up. This place knows what’s up. The playlist is so perfectly ghati that even Salim naai and Suraj truck driver would be proud. Even the menu screams nostalgia. The coasters? They look like those cardboard tickets from a mela’s fortune-telling machine. Ambience = nailed. Even the restrooms have attitude.
Now for the free chakna: excellently roasted peanuts and fryums. For a Mumbaikar millennial, that’s basically an emotional reunion. Somewhere, a tear rolled down my cheek. Food-wise, they know their game: peanut chaat, chakli, schezwan chutney, and cheese garlic naan (listed in the chakna section). Cooked to perfection, giving me those Ambience, Lower Parel feels. The kebabs? Charred and overcooked, just the way we secretly like them. Service? Swift, friendly, and non-judgy.
As I graduated from KF Premium (because Ultra is for posers) to Old Monk and Coke, I slipped deeper into my happy place, regaling my girlfriend with stories of the good ol’ days back home in Mumbai and the countless nights that ended with a midnight special greasy pav bhaji. With every sip, the nostalgia got louder, and for a brief moment, it felt like I was right back there. Walked out happy, tipsy, and humming “Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara.” Will I be back?...
