A fine-dining Italian restaurant chain with branches across Bangalore, Chennai and recently Pune, Toscano Restaurant & Wine Bar offers an intimate yet vibrant atmosphere. Fusing the best of old and new world Italian cuisine, Toscano offers an eclectic menu from gourmet pizzas to multi-course dinners.

A tiled floor and arch with a soothing white ambiance welcomes you as you step foot into the restaurant and instants transports you to the trattorias of Italy. The al fresco seating is a perfect spot for a lazy weekend lunch while the cozy interiors play perfect host to a romantic dinner experience.

A recent visit to this place left me visibly impressed.

When in Toscano, eat bread the way Italians do - with some basil walnut pesto and salsa pomodoro. As soon as you are seated at the table, an assortment of freshly baked bread including the iconic focaccia is served alongside garden-fresh sauces. A great way to satiate your hunger as you look forward to the next courses.

Signature Cocktails A flawless concoction of gin, lavender and elderflower syrups, peach, sweet & sour and egg white, the Insolito [Rs. 475] is picture perfect in appearance & in flavours.

Antipasti [Starters] Sautéed mushrooms and artichoke hearts tossed in an aglio olio sauce is always a healthy option. Add kale green salad and pine nuts for the crunch and your Funghi E Carciofi Trifoliate [Rs. 485] is the perfect antipasti.

The Sapori Mediterranei [Rs. 485] sported some lovely, fresh flavors. The creaminess of the hummus went well with the textures of the Greek eggplant while the cumin crisp bread and olives provided the crunch and tanginess respectively.

The Tartare Di Salmone E Involtini [Rs. 595] had truffle oil drizzled salmon tartare & crunchy cucumber salmon roulade, pickled vegetables, green apple salad with mixed greens while the Pollo Tonnato [Rs. 515] dished out herb poached chicken slices coated in creamy tuna caper mayo & served with mixed greens & caper berries. A lot of complex flavors and textures to both dishes and anyone who is a fish aficionado would savor these.

Insalata [Salads] The Burrata E Prosciutto Di Parma [Rs. 595] was beauty on a plate. Roasted fig and fine Parma ham slices with melting burrata, almond shavings, greens and mixed olives drizzled with truffle oil had simple flavors yet went fantastic when combined.

Artisan & Special Pastas The Tagliatelle Con Tartufo [Rs. 875] had hand-made pasta with truffle flavored butter sauce, truffle shavings & parmesan cheese. The richness of the truffles complemented the bite of the parmesan and the tagliatelle too was perfectly al-dente.

Handmade Sourdough Pizza It’s quite impressive to know that Toscano uses only artisan sourdough, topped with the best ingredients & baked to perfection with their special tomato sauce & mozzarella cheese. In order to try more flavors, we opted to go for a half-and-half.

The Toscano [Rs. 695] had pesto chicken, bell peppers, onions, olives & boiled egg while the Parma Ham [Rs. 785] had buffalo mozzarella, fine Parma ham & balsamic coated figs. Authentic ingredients, and simple flavors were the common standouts in both pizzas. Although the Parma Ham took my heart away.

Dolce [Desserts] I have always been a fan of Italian desserts, knowing they go above and beyond the obvious. And the desserts at Toscano did not disappoint.

The Charcoal Infused Cheese Cake [Rs. 305] with fresh fruit cranberry compote was as gorgeous as art on a plate with a myriad of textures on the mouth-feel while the Lemon, Orange Chiffon Chiboust [Rs. 305] with lemon grass ice cream was even more stunning. Absolutely gorgeous on the plate and equally delectable on the palate.

Visited Toscano for my birthday dinner and the experience was lovely overall.

Ambience & Setup The table setup was beautiful with a warm candlelight touch — perfect for a quiet dinner. Both indoor and outdoor seating options are available. The place has a calm, family-friendly vibe and is not a party spot, which suited us well.

Service The staff was extremely polite and helpful, explaining ingredients and assisting with the order. Special mention to Suresh for his hospitality — he really made our experience better.

Food • Spinach, Corn & Pumpkin Filled Garlic Bread – Absolutely mind-blowing and a must-try. One of the best breads I’ve ever had — flavorful, warm, and unique. • Penne Arrabbiata Pasta – A bit of a letdown. Initially felt undercooked, but the staff kindly remade it. Still, it wasn’t cheesy or flavorful enough. Wouldn’t recommend. • Cookies & Cream Milkshake – Good, but nothing exceptional.

Pricing The prices are on the higher side, and there were no standard offers or discounts. Since it was a birthday, we were offered a small gesture on drinks, which was appreciated, but generally, don’t expect any deals.

Overall Perfect for someone who enjoys authentic Italian flavors without an Indian twist. It may not appeal to everyone, especially those expecting more desi-style flavors. A quiet, classy place to celebrate special occasions...
