Adyar Ananda Bhavan - A2B — Restaurant in Tamil Nadu

I have been visiting this place once in a while since 9 years. I just noticed that I never reviewed this place yet. The food here is exceptionally good usually though there was a small difference today. I would have reduced more stars for the rating, had not the waiter changed one of the items.

My wife and me visited here on our way to kerala. We ordered 2 plain dosas and 2 teas only. Both of us received burnt 🔥 dosa. I mumbled the same to the waiter who did not say anything and went to serve the next set of people. Interestingly we were the first set of customers for the day. When I saw my wife's dosa was 50% burnt as in the picture, I called up the waiter and asked for a change as the standard of Adyar doesn't match with the dosa we received. The waiter instantly changed the dosa this time.

The dosa tasted exceptional after the change. The service was also good. Thus I will retain my 5 stars. In the restaurant I noticed a large set of probably bengali visitors. They were using the washroom as expected. One of them was combing her hair in the dining area which was corrected by the waiter and this decision of his demands respect as combing one's hair is not to be done while eating food (basic etiquette).

A con that I felt the restaurant faced was the shortage of washrooms. There was only one usable one and this was in high demand. The family mentioned above had certain members using the single washroom for upto 10 minutes as if it was their own without consideration for other customers. This is not something the restaurant authorities can do something about but more washrooms can be considered especially in a high demand restaurant like adyar. The washroom however was really...

We went there by 5 PM. The waiting time is too much for simple tiffin items like Dosas and Booris. The quantity for Boori Masal was inadequate and asked for providing little more chutney/Masal. To refill the chutney and sambhar for our orders they took nearly 30-45 minutes. Ordered their special Adai Avial which didn't come even after another an hour. Don't know if it's the inability of the staff or the kitchen! The supplier, though he forcefully made us to sit in his table, but was not courteous through out the serve. He is thinking that we are having our food for FREE!!!. Had to keep drawing their attention and we were given attention only after a hue and cry. Pongal was served in a small bowl reserved for snacks and was overflowing. He did'nt serve it in a plate so that spillage can be avoided. Definitely not for hungry people expecting hot, fresh food. Only saving grace is the food. In Coimbatore, we had gone to Annapoorna Gouri shankar, Geetha Canteen near to the Court, both Hotels of Anandhas were highly hygenic, good taste, sufficient quantity served in a better plates, of course with good employees who knows how to make customers happy through their courteous service, which will eventually help to higher customer patronage etc.etc. Due to AAB rudeness will never venture into any AAB in TN. I've been a regular customer at this place and the food here is consistently delicious especially for lunch and snacks. The taste and quality have always impressed me.

The service could be more attentive the staff often doesn’t make eye contact or check in promptly to take orders, and we usually have to call them ourselves. Sometimes there's also a bit of a delay in getting the food. The air conditioning could be cooler, especially during hotter days.

In terms of facilities, there’s only one hand wash station inside and two outside it would be great to have at least three for customer convenience. Also, there’s only one restroom available, which can be an issue during busy hours. Having three restrooms would make a big difference.

One small suggestion regarding the breakfast chutney (especially the tomato or kara chutney): it could use a bit of tweaking. Maybe frying it with a little coconut oil before serving might bring out better flavor.
