Coffee Shastra has been a great spot for me since it’s humble beginnings on the corner of a building. Whether it be having a cup of chai or a bowl of maggi. They also had the best hot chocolate at the most affordable price.
But today things were not the same. The newly opened outlet on Bazullah road, the same road on which they had their quiet beginning, was not even close to what it was. The same cup of hot chocolate now at 80 was no close to the ones I used to have.
I understand when expansion happens, the dynamics are not always same. I don’t mind the price but the taste was pathetic. Tasted like a glass of carelessness. Thin in consistency and less than the usual.
It’s beyond disappointing and this is not something I’d never want as a regular customer. I mean it never justified a single penny I paid. Yes it was replaced with a bun chaska. But that’s not what I would care for.
Just because you have expanded, you cannot become inconsistent. Every customer counts and every order is valuable. No one would always pay a premium if the good old roots were forgotten.
I’ve attached a pic of the hot chocolate too( I took a small sip)
Hope you take my review...
Read moreGood coffee shop with a wide spread of choices hot and cold beverages along with some snacking options. It is mostly crowded and might need a bit of follow up after order before you can receive your drink/snack. Starbucks like naming would help ease the crowd at the counter.
Open air seating is available for about 5-6 people but during a typical evening the place will be having at least 20 people around the area thronging to get their dose of sugar.
The cold beverages are all premixed and thus altering the amount of sugar is not possible. Price wise it is in the range of chai kings and like, which is on the premium side. The usage of beetle nut leaf plates is commendable, and hope a similar Eco friendly alternative is adopted for the tumblers which are disposable paper cups for the regular size and disposable pp plastic cups for large beverages. An option to have glass tumblers would be great to have. Cold beverages are also packaged in plastic bottles, and glass bottles/mugs could be adopted here as well.
Had honey ginger lemon tea, hazelnut coffee, the bun butter jam and bun maksa. And the Belgian chocolate milk as well....
Read moreCoffee is very good and looks outwardly value for moneyfor chennaites. Yet they have to go a long way in rethinking their business model.
I wish they (along with Tiffen Sashtra) transform sooner to the infamous and most popular 'Tasha Tindae' model of the Bangalore sooner to compete in Chennai market.
Chennai not only needs quality food stuff but as well fairly priced food delivered.
I feel charging almost Rs 38 to 40 for a coffee as good as in a decent restaurant is not the right pricing, as Coffee Shasthra 's cost when compared to a full fledged restro in Chennai is far less.
Strange to see pricing for bun butter jam and boiled peanuts at a high level almost twice the cost of decent bakeries or road side eateries.
It is fair that they copycat the Tasha Tindae model customised to Chennai customers, as the chennaites are conscious of price always.
For long term survival and sustainability it is high time the promoters switch to the cheap, hygienic, very tasty Tasha Tindae model, which gives value for money for both customers and restro runner, as volumes make money in such a...
