The Taj Mount Road, is a curiosity. Why does it exist, one wonders, there's a storied, history laden Taj just across the street, and there are two other Taj run hotels in or around the city, the Coromandel, and Fisherman's Cove.
The Hotel is at times visually appealing, the interiors are 1920s Art Deco, but the flourishes are easily missed if you are distracted. They are elegant, with huge marble encased pillars, which impress. There is however a shortage of art on the walls.
On to the Kefi review. Billed as a Turkish or Mediterranean restaurant, a cuisine that's difficult to spoil, the food wasn't terrible. We ordered a raft of starters with some wine but eventually got bored and called it a night. The serving plates were ungainly, and we were not served on our plates. They were embarrassingly stingy with the halloumi, and despite merely enquiring (not explicitly complaining) where the exact location of the halloumi was within the garnish, we were interrupted mid-conversation by the chef who wanted to know what the matter was. He left after we said nothing thank you. The hummus and the Spanakopita were decent. The "Gatooh" cheesecake at the end was poor, and the preserved jams didn't blend.
Since I didn't order the wine, I can't really complain, but nevertheless I was dismayed that the Cabernet Savignon was the depressingly familiar Chilean "Tarapaca", wholly drinkable, but a probable applicant for Purgatory's house red. My point is that, if a restaurant is looking to set itself apart from the competition, which Kefi has attempted with its choice of focus, then try to do so, don't serve the same tired wine that I now realise must dominate Chennai reds, at least I suppose it wasn't a spurious Jacob's Creek.
Two stars, mediocre and...
Read moreWe went for dinner with my parents. The service was terribly slow and wait staff seemed to not even see us. It did not seem that they were under staffed yet waiters wouldn't even come by to check on us. We had to flag down waiters and even then the dinner service took incredibly long. Ultimately, we sat down at 9 PM and finished at 11 PM, but we didn't get our first waiter until 9:30 PM.
All in all, it was shockingly disappointing because this place comes highly rated. Note that the restaurant was not packed and busy. Only our table and a few others on the outside were occupied and none of the tables inside were taken.
Food was decent, nothing to write home about. Their tahini was a yogurt sauce. In fact tahini is to be made out of sesame.
All in all the rating on zomato overstates the quality of this restaurant. Go here if you enjoy sitting by yourself in peace and quiet with strangers nearby. Or you could just go to a...
Read moreGreat Dining experience at Kefi which is the Roof Top restaurant at Taj Club House. Beautiful open sky ambiance. The staff was very friendly and efficient at service. I really wanted to rate Kefi as 4Star but the food we ordered was served cold.
I saw on Zomato that they serve Pizza and Pasta but when i asked the waiter he said they got only Mediterranean menu.
We order Bacalo Cod Fish Soup and Samak Mashwi from the Chargrill but both were served cold. The 3 complimentary of Mozzarella on Tomato, Bread with Olives and Lychee Sorbet was perfect. I recommend the place if you looking for fantastic ambiance. Food: 3/5* Service: 4/5* Ambiance: 4/5* Value...
