I’ve had a lot of amazing memories in this restaurant with my family since I was a kid, and have seen it in various stages of its growth and changes in taste and the chefs and waiters. Since 2012 probably. The ambience is something unforgettable.
We always ordered the same dishes. They first give you complimentary papad and cracker chips on the table. I used to and still absolutely love the chips along with the sweet yoghurt dip and pineapple pickle. The latter is unfortunately no longer served, they do serve a nice veggie pickle though.
Go to starters here are the malai broccoli and malai paneer tikka, both are good but have declined- used to be much tastier before. The portion sizes are very good though. We would then order bread basket with Paneer Lababdar, a gravy of theirs I still absolutely enjoy. Also tried paneer khurchan recently, which offers a similar taste but along either veggies. Then sometimes we finish up with kulfi and halwa, a classic here.
A smart move to do nowadays there is to order from their sizzler menu, which they introduced about a year back. It consists of most of their starters but served as a sizzler, but bread and curry of your own choice comes as part of the package. Though the curry would be smaller in portion than when ordered separately, this deal helps you complete the entire meal (starter+main) under a much lower price than when ordered separately- very much worth it.
I’ll also say they deserve a plus point for being accommodating- a good chef or kitchen can serve food from outside the menu if really requested to and they’ve done it for me. From white gravy chicken curry to a non spicy fish tawa fry, their chef has made it- helps a lot when you have restrictions and that’s the thing you expect with Taj.
I still cherish my memories here and regardless of what’s changed and what not , beyond Indus continues to deliver in every way. They’ve made many days of my childhood memorable and are fittingly my favorite Taj restaurant in the city. They serve a variety of good food in an amazingly cozy and elegant ambience (I’ve slept off at times here as a young kid). A definite must visit for anyone who enjoys Indo-Pak cuisine...
