What you expect from a Budget hotel when you are travelling on a tight budget? Clean room, good sleep, easy check in-check out, no-nonsense staff, well-maintained toilets, accessibility etc... If this is your criteria, definitely Mount Residency can be your best choice.||||I stayed here for last 2 days and I personally found it at par with branded Budget hotels like Ginger or Redfox etc. Having staying in such budget branded hotels, I can personally say, this one has almost all same amenities as to that one. Since I was on a very tight budget, my intention was to get a room primarily to sleep rather inhouse amenities and facilities.||||The best thing of hotel was, it has a 24-hour Check-In/Check-out policy (not applicable for late check in after 3 PM afternoons). Since my bus reached Chennai morning 8AM, it was looking a hotel that allows early check in and most of the branded budget hotels had a stricter 12 noon check in, which wasn't good for me. Its in this hunt, I found Mount residency, which allowed early check in that has 24 hours check out policy. It was good enough for me. And when spoke over the phone to clarify, its Manager- Riyas was too helpful in clearing the doubts.||||Whats the biggest advantage was, its right in heart of the city. Just on side of LIC Building in Mount Road (Anna Salai), a landmark in its own right. Its actually located in a small lane on side of LIC Office. The lane is dotted with small workshops, godowns etc with lot of workers roaming around, which could be one reason why the hotel may not appeal for many business travellers or families as such. But I found no reason to be worry, as the hotel is barely 300 meters from the main road (Anna Salai) and those on street doesn't bother me. In my experience, its okay even for families as I have seen few families in the hotel.||||Mr. Riyas upgraded my room to a small suite, which had a small sitting room with a couch that doubles as a bed and a single sofa and large dressing table cum working table. The room has a good thick mattress with well-maintained linen and a thick blanket. Apart from it, it has a good dressing table, a cupboard and baggage rack. The toilet is decent even though it has stains on the handles. The TV has mostly English, Hindi and Tamil channels alone. The hotel provides complimentary wifi facility and all airconditioned. The AC was super cool (though the remote is a bit confusing as it could change from cool to humid on touch, but soon understood how it works)||||Don't expect any much room service or such. No in-house restaurant as such. But they have a janitor room in every floor and you can see room boys in that. Its easy to ask them for a bottle of mineral water or such things.||||The location is unbeatable, one can get anything within its radius. The Express Avenue Mall, one of the largest malls in the city is within walking distance (600 Meters), so as Spencers. There are more than 2 dozen restaurants in its vicinity of various range. So as several shops in Anna Salai LIC area. And easy to get autos or cabs. If booking Uber/Ola, its better to tell them Subway before LIC or back side entrance of SBI Personal Banking branch, as many don't know this hotel which is inside a lane. Its much better to walk 300 meters to the road, rather confusing the drivers. ||||As a Malayalee, I found so much help from Riyas, being a Malayalee and many staff are also from my state. And for the price I got (Rs 1000 per night), I can't complain about anything. HIGHLY...
Read moreHad visited Chennai and needed to be nearer to Spencer Plaza on Anna Salai. Chose this hotel. Cab driver had a tough time finding the place. Is just 100 meters off the arterial Anna Salai, yet the access from the main road to the hotel is very narrow. Further during the day, two wheeled vehicles and food carts occupy the space further narrowing the space available for a car to traverse. These days, with the metro work in progress, closed off access and one ways make the approach that much more tough. It is tiny hotel, but completely functional. Lift worked. Room size sufficed for two adults and an infant. Air conditioning worked. Hot water was available on the tap. Toiletries was limited to two bars of Medimix ayurvedic soap. Once inside the room, noise levels from outside were minimal. Quality of towels, bed linen and blankets were non-luxurious, yet functional. The 24 hours reception service was good and helpful at all times. Languages used were English, Tamil and Hindi. They do not have a kitchen/restaurant, but will fetch food from nearby hotels and serve in their own utensils and cups to the room. Helpers are primarily from outside the state and will tend to speak in Hindi. Go for it, if you need to be in Chennai for a short while, need to be near the key area of Anna Salai and most importantly for just USD 20 a night,...
