So i went alone for the restaurant and i was starving from long journey, but i was extremely disappointed with their service A waiter asked me to sit in a table i kept my bag went for handwash and when i came back 2 ladies started fighting with me that they were waiting and i had taken the table, the truth there was no one when i kept the bag and it was the waiter who asked me to sir there, and an other waiter came and said that people who came needs to be prioritised and not you so please get up, honestly i cam first and i donno why they treated me like that, i should have left the hotel by then only but then i was so hungry with lots of bag and looking tired i did not had the energy to go to another hotel, after fee mins they asked me to sit inside and din take orders for 10 mins it’s already 4pm, and they were not giving proper menu details i asked for meals they gave me only rice and asked for side dish i asked for prawn not available, just before me the other table had asked for prawn the waiter had said there is no prawn which i din know, so when i asked he said I already told them we don’t have , again your asking (honestly why should notice or hear what is discussed in other tables) for which i hot a rude treatment, i was a lot giving up and went blank and asked what else they have he gave me fish and crab, i just said we me crab din bother to ask what type of crab or size He handed over a a big piece of crab, i was not expecting that i have had only small ones, so was unsure how to eat them properly, anyways i managed to eat how much ever i can from the crab, the waiter have me writer look already twice standing from opp table, i was about to cry, I controlled myself and asked for rasam and eat, not the horrible part waiter comes and ask why have u not eaten u don’t know how to eat, and teaching me how to eat, i would have appreciated him if he wants me teach me how to eat crab, when i asked or if they have treated me nicely, but after all rude treatments he was teaching me, i din know how to take that good or worse, and by then all the people started noticing me which was even more embarrassing i left half stomach and asked for bill, i was charged for meals wand crab and in the meals only rice and rasam were served no gravy, nothing and once I paid i even paid 10 rs to that waiter and asked for bill back, when I asked he asked they took it if i want get from there and just left without telling which bill number or any details Is this a treatment that i deserve that i went alone or am i a girl or i am not so well dressed, or they think I can’t pay the bill, do i deserve this really We had our fathers retirement party at this hotel and spent around 30k in the same hotel Never coming back to selvi mess even for the hype it has, minus in...

I know this place is famous for its biryani and non veg items but imagine being the only vegetarian amongst the non vegetarian gang. What does this place expect that the vegetarian should convert to non vegetarian? It would have been nice to atleast have 1 or 2 options of vegetarian food. If not atleast they could have some decency to accept us bringing food from outside and letting us have there, I came here with 3 other people who were all non vegetarian and they out right denied me from eating the dosa I had got for myself. I just sat there seeing others eat.

I accept you should not allow everyone to eat outside food. But you can see there is a gang of 4 people just one is veg. You are getting revenue from 3 people who are eating your biryani right. Not a very nice behaviour by the owner to be so strict especially when it comes to denying someone who is hungry and make them watch others eat.

I think I should be happy that they didn't ask me to get out saying you are vegetarian so don't occupy the seat without eating.

Very disappointed with this kind of service. Their food maybe good but their...

Selvi Mess in Salem is truly a gem for non-veg lovers. It’s not just a restaurant – it’s an experience rooted in authentic South Indian flavors. I visited the place with my family and was genuinely impressed by the taste, service, and value for money. We ordered mutton biryani, chicken 65, nethili fry, and their signature fish curry – and every single dish was bursting with flavor. The biryani had perfectly cooked seeraga samba rice, tender mutton pieces, and just the right balance of spices. The chicken 65 was crisp on the outside, juicy inside, and well-marinated. But the highlight for me was the nethili fry – fresh, crispy, and addictive! The meals are served in a traditional style with no fancy ambience, but it’s clean, well-maintained, and always buzzing with regular customers – which is a great sign. The service is fast, the staff are polite, and the portions are generous. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity they offer. If you're in Salem, skipping Selvi Mess would be a huge miss. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy spicy, home-style non-veg food in Tamil Nadu.
