Upon stepping into the Writer Cafe located within Chennai's VR Mall, one might anticipate a sanctuary for those passionate about literature paired with delectable food. Nonetheless, my latest encounter has led me to reassess the venue's literary and culinary value.
Eager for a modest delight, I chose a waffle, only to face a culinary disaster. The so-called waffle appeared to be in the midst of a severe existential crisis, bearing a closer resemblance to a disappointing pancake rather than the crisp, light treat expected from a properly made waffle. Its consistency was devoid of any fluffiness, prompting doubts about whether the chef had confused the recipe for waffle batter with that of pancake mix.
To add to the underwhelming food experience, the prices were exorbitantly high. The charge for the disappointing waffle did not at all reflect its quality, leaving me to ponder the logic of anyone willing to spend their hard-earned money on such a lackluster food venture.
Furthermore, the environment was anything but conducive to the literary retreat envisaged by a venue bearing the name "Writer's Cafe." The noise, presumably from the open kitchen and the throng of customers, demolished any hope for a peaceful writing haven. It seemed the cafe had drawn influence from a noisy bazaar rather than a calm space intended for creative musings.
Had the ambiance provided a refuge and escape, the steep prices and poor-quality food might have been slightly more tolerable. Regrettably, the experience fell short of the idyllic vision of a writer's haven.
In summary, my visit to the Writer's Cafe at VR Mall in Chennai was a letdown in both the literary and culinary spheres. The inferior waffle, combined with its unreasonable price and the boisterous setting, left me longing for a more genuine and fulfilling experience elsewhere. Writers, culinary aficionados, and those in search of a break from life's chaos would do well to look for other venues that prioritize both quality...
Read moreAs a true food lover and someone who appreciates ambiance just as much as taste, Writer’s Cafe in VR Mall, Chennai, completely won me over! Nestled in one corner of the mall’s bustling upper floor, this cozy café is a hidden gem for anyone looking to unwind with a book and indulge in delicious, soul-satisfying food.
The café has a charming literary vibe — warm lighting, bookshelves, and wooden interiors create the perfect escape from the chaos of the mall. Whether you're with friends or on a solo date with your journal, the setting feels intimate and inspiring.
Now coming to the food — absolutely delightful! Their pasta (especially the creamy Alfredo) is rich and perfectly cooked. The desserts, especially the gooey chocolate cake and baked cheesecake, are a must-try. You can tell everything is made with quality ingredients. Their coffee? Bold, flavorful, and satisfying — just what you need for an afternoon pick-me-up or creative brainstorming session.
The staff is courteous and patient, and they allow you to sit and work or read for a while without rushing you. Prices are quite reasonable for a café in a mall setting, especially considering the quality and presentation of the food.
What makes it even more meaningful is its association with social causes, employing acid attack survivors and promoting literature. That makes every visit feel like you're supporting something good.
A must-visit spot in Chennai for any food enthusiast or café hopper! Will...
Read moreOnce when I had decided to dine at writer's ,Half n hour after our orders were taken, we were informed that the restaurant had run out of supplies to make the dishes. We had to then order from the lesser options that they presented us with. To err is human, and that bitter experience didnot stop me from going to writers again coz they do have a massive reputation . So the next time round that I went my order was messed up( I wasn't surprised, given the previous experience) When I told them that the food that was on my table was not the one that I had ordered, they didnot give me the option of cancelling it though it was quite late at night and made me wait for another half n hour or so. Icing on the cake, they gave me rupee notes that were torn on the edges as change, and when I questioned the manager about it , instead of atleast saying sorry for the mistake, he told me the notes weren't torn at all. Neither were they sorry for the time that I had lost weighting for an order that I never wanted coz they messed it up in the first place (not complimentary, I had to pay)nor were they sorry for giving torn notes. On top of all of that the manager was too arrogant and made me look like I made the mistake of not accepting worn out notes and not going into their kitchen and see if they were putting the right toppings on my pizza though I made the waiter gentleman repeat my order twice
Overall they have a pathetic customer service And have no...
