I recently visited this half a century old Sahu Biryani in Hazratganj, located in the charming lane adjacent to Sahu Cinema, and it brought back a wave of nostalgia! Back in the day, we would watch movies at Sahu Cinema and always get their delicious biryani packed to enjoy before the show. It was a ritual for many, and I’m thrilled to see that they’ve not only maintained their signature flavor but have elevated it even further!
Their Mutton Biryani remains my all-time favorite—each piece is tender, juicy, and perfectly spiced. The rice is aromatic, and the meticulous cooking is evident with every bite. I highly recommend pairing the biryani with their shami kebabs for a truly memorable meal. This combination has been my personal favorite for years, and it never disappoints.
If you’re looking for something more, their Chicken Masala and Mutton Kaleji Fry with a hot, fresh paratha are absolute must-tries. The flavors are rich, authentic, and speak of decades of perfected culinary expertise.
Despite its incredible taste and quality, I believe Sahu Biryani is still underrated, and it can easily rival some of the biggest names in Lucknow’s biryani scene. This hidden gem deserves far more recognition.
A five-star experience from me! If you haven’t tried it yet, make sure to visit Sahu Biryani—it’s a treat that you’ll keep coming back for!

Lucknow has a rich food culture, known for flavors that please the palate and satisfy the soul. But my experience with SAHU Biryani was, unfortunately, far from that standard.
I ordered their Mutton Biryani via Zomato, and after finishing, I felt compelled to reach out to the owner. He explained that they cook using Dalda, which was shocking enough, but honestly, I’d say even Dalda might deserve a better reputation than what they delivered. My entire experience was marred by an overwhelming layer of oil—not just on my plate, but on my hands and mouth as well.
The rice was another disappointment. It was stiff and undercooked, lacking the softness and fragrant richness that one expects from a good biryani in Lucknow. Given the poor quality, the price was unreasonably high.
All in all, I’d rate this as one of the most disappointing biryanis I’ve tried in the city. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic or even remotely enjoyable biryani...
