A New Culinary Landmark
Tucked beside the legendary Kunga Restaurant in Darjeeling, Dekevas Restaurant has rapidly become a favorite among locals and tourists alike—especially now that many say, “Kunga’s closed, but Dekevas is full!” Run by a warm and dedicated local Nepalese family, this bustling eatery offers a menu that mirrors the authentic Chinese flavors Kunga was famous for, but with its own distinct charm.
Ambience & Experience From the moment you step in, you’re enveloped by the inviting atmosphere of Dekevas. The restaurant is often busy, a testament to its growing popularity, particularly in the wake of Kunga's closure. Although there may be a slight wait during peak dinner hours, the anticipation is well worth it.
Culinary Delights The menu at Dekevas is both generous in portion size and rich in flavor. Highlights include:
Chicken Spring Roll: Crisp on the outside and bursting with savory flavors on the inside, these spring rolls set the tone for an authentic Chinese dining experience. Mixed Fried Rice: A delightful medley of vegetables, proteins, and perfectly seasoned rice that offers a satisfying balance of textures and tastes. Pork Chilly: A must-try for pork lovers—this dish is a spicy, tangy treat loaded with tender pork, making it a true haven for those who appreciate bold flavors. Momos: Before you forget, the momos are a standout, offering a delicious nod to local favorites with a unique twist. Service & Value While the service can be a bit slow—likely due to the restaurant's popularity—the generous portions and authentic taste of the food make every minute of the wait worthwhile. The overall experience provides great value for money, with each dish reflecting both tradition and passion.

Read moreI regret to say that my experience at Dekevas Restaurant in Darjeeling was profoundly disappointing. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this place fell short in almost every aspect of dining.
The food quality was abysmal. The chili garlic noodles were particularly disheartening; they seemed like they had been prepared earlier in the day and merely reheated when ordered. The result was a soggy, flavorless mess that lacked any real seasoning or fresh ingredients. Each bite was a letdown, with no hint of the bold, spicy flavors one would expect from a dish of this nature.
The ramen was equally unappetizing. It arrived bland and unremarkable, with a broth that seemed to be devoid of any real taste or depth. The noodles were overcooked and lacked the satisfying texture that makes ramen enjoyable.
In addition to the subpar food, the overall seasoning was noticeably absent across all the dishes we tried. Every plate seemed to be missing that crucial element that makes food enjoyable and memorable.
Given the poor quality of the food and the lackluster flavors, I cannot recommend Dekevas Restaurant. There are surely better dining options in Darjeeling where the food is fresher, more flavorful, and worth your...
