Imagine stepping into a reel life that smells like biryani and sounds like the clink of coffee cups. Welcome to the L’Ray Treat Café, Newtown’s charming homage to the maestro himself — Satyajit Ray — where the décor whispers “Charulata”, but your stomach demands “Goopy Gyne’s Gourmet.”
Let’s start with the ambience — it’s a veritable film/art/book lover’s dream wrapped in a café napkin. With black-and-white stills, vintage posters, and dialogues scribbled like love notes on the walls, it feels like Ray himself might saunter out of the kitchen with your cappuccino. If you’re a cinephile, your heart will say “Bravo!” — but if you’re a plus-sized foodie, your hips might whisper, “Bruh, there’s barely space to breathe.”
The Plot (a.k.a. The Food) Oh, the food — thankfully not as abstract as art-house cinema. From the pasta with just the right swirl of drama, to the flavourful kebabs that deserve their own background score, L’Ray Treat delivers a strong performance. Portions are generous enough to feed a hungry Feluda after a long case, and the pricing? Let’s just say it’s more “middle-class Byomkesh” than “Park Street posh.”
The Intermission: Service Time If there’s one plot twist you didn’t ask for, it’s the slow service. Yes, the food is good, but waiting 30 minutes for it felt like I was stuck in Ray’s "Pather Panchali", monsoon included. The staff are sweet and apologetic, but hey, even Satyajit wouldn’t stretch a café scene this long.
Final Take L’Ray Treat is a must-visit for Ray fans, foodies, and people who don’t mind playing musical chairs during rush hour. Just avoid peak times if you value your knees or your blood pressure. A little more elbow room and faster service would turn this “Short Film” of a café into a Full Feature Blockbuster.

Read moreMy recent visit to this Bakers Cafe left me with an experience so delectable that I couldn't wait to share it. The ambience was full of warmth and the Satyajit Ray decor with Ray's music in the background created an inviting atmosphere. Started with Blue lagoon Mocktail which was quite delightful. Then we had Cheese Fondue (Sausage, Chicken pops, Carrots and Croutons) which came with boiling cheese in fondue pot with an enchanting flavor. We separately ordered Pan Seared Sausages to enjoy with the Fondue dip and it was heavenly. Next it was Butter Garlic prawn, which was fresh, soft and juicy dipped in butter sauce. Non-veg club sandwich was crispy on outside with soft layers of chicken, eggs, lettuce and mayo inside. Finally, ended with Classic First flush Darjeeling tea with soothing aroma. I wholeheartedly recommend L'Ray Treat to all food enthusiasts and assure you that you won't be...
Read moreJust searched in Google on Sunday for hanging out for an hour with my wife and daughter and as a result of the search we found this cafe with good review. We visited the place at about 8 PM after making a phone call confirmation for booking a table in advance. We reached the place and the entrance was so soothing that it impressed us on first sight. Beautifully decorated. The food we ordered were like this: One Blue Lagoon One Mango Milk Shake One plate of Fish(Bhetki) Fingers (4 pieces with Potato French Fries) One plate of Wrap with Garlic Chicken & Mashroom.
Service was very fast, food quality was extremely good, ambience was awesome with Books, Mild AC, Games & puzzles for the kids and adults and the prime thing was Satyajit Roy who was evenly mixed with everything. Manager was very cordial and we eagerly wish to visit this place very soon. We need more café in...
