One of the oldest and well-known restaurants in Darjeeling, Soaltee is a name synonymous with juicy momos of the chicken, pork, and mutton kind. It has managed to retain the distinct flavor of the food over the years that has resulted in a loyal fan base.
Situated below another famous restaurant, Penang, and besides yet another popular restaurant, Washington, Soaltee can lay claim to be a part of the famous trio.
The pork momos are what attracts customers here. With each bite, the juicy fat drips from the dish that goes well with the spicy chutney. The restaurant serves other dishes as well such as the ubiquitous noodles but momos are the main selling point.
Over the years, the tiny cabins that set it apart from other establishments has been kept intact. Prices have steadily increased to keep pace with changing times but service could be one area that can be improved upon. No steady supply of tissues, dim lighting, and no fancy ambiance may have contributed to the old world charm of the place but if some other restaurant is offering equally good food with top-knotch service and amenities, it may be a matter of time that Soaltee realizes that it needs to buckle up.

I complained about it but the owner refused to accept their mistake instead he insisted that it was fresh and the previous customer also had it. He did not even apologize for their mistake. He did not have the guts to own his mistake. Instead he asked me to pay for it and offered me another plate which of course I refused. Very bad experience. I wil never go to this restaurant again. I suggest not to eat in this restaurant. I would rather recommend Penang restaurant...

The Mutton Momos were outstanding – easily among the best I’ve ever tried. Bursting with flavour, they hit the spot so perfectly that we couldn’t resist ordering a second plate. The only letdown was the soup served alongside, which tasted more like plain hot water. Even adding sauces and seasonings didn't help.
