I originally had plans to go somewhere else, but somehow ended up here — no idea how or when I even bookmarked it in my wishlist, but I’m glad I did! The meals here were truly satisfying and offered great value for the price. The standout for me was definitely the variety of gravies, especially the thokku-style ones — they were packed with flavor, and the rasam was also top-notch. If you're someone who prefers substance over ambience, this is a great spot to enjoy a hearty and tasty South Indian meal without breaking the bank. Instead of choosing a pricey restaurant, you can come here and enjoy some delicious, home-style food. That said, the only letdown for me was the Ayilai fish fry, priced at ₹120. I expected a tawa fry with juicy texture, but what I got was a deep-fried version with a bit of flour coating — personally didn’t feel it was worth the cost. Also, do note that the ambience might not appeal to everyone, especially if you're expecting a more polished dine-in experience. Still, after a long day, this place served exactly what I needed — wholesome, tasty food. Chennai messes like this are often more flavorful than many restaurants in the city.

Muthulakshmi Mess – A Hidden Gem for Meat Lovers! If you appreciate good food and won’t mind the ambience then this one is for you!! If you’re a meat lover in Chennai, Muthulakshmi Mess in Thiruvanmiyur is an absolute must-visit. This place delivers on every front—amazing food, great service, and unbeatable prices. Unlike many overhyped spots in the city, this one truly lives up to its reputation. Their meals are outstanding, with perfectly cooked meats, rich flavors, and that authentic homely touch. Every dish is packed with taste, and you can tell they take pride in serving high-quality food. The portions are generous, and the variety on offer is impressive. The service is quick and efficient, with staff who are friendly and attentive, making sure you have everything you need. Despite the incredible food, the prices are surprisingly reasonable, making it one of the best value-for-money spots for non-veg meals in Chennai. If you haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out! This is easily one of the best places in the city for a satisfying, meaty feast. Best food: Mutton chukka, Brain fry, Prawns

Average taste. Poor service. Poor ambient. Went for lunch. Had meals, chicken fry, omelette. All are average taste only. For meals, they provide kuttu poriyal, chicken gravy, mutton gravy, fish gravy, sambar, rasam, moore, appalam with unlimited rice. It's ok for the price. Not an awesome taste, not to be missed or must try. Chicken fry and omelete are tastes average. And It's OK to have some side-dishes here. They have fish, prawn, squid sides along with chicken and mutton spares. Had a chance to see Insta food vlogger - Nivesfoodflavour in action, sitting opposite to me and didnt eat anything inspite of ordering many thing and took them in camera alone. Looks like, she didnt like anything here. Chances, she may skip this log. Not recommend for family to dine-in. OK for small gang of 2 - 4. Local Bachelors shall try repeatedly. Take-away wont be nice. Better to avoid lunch and instead can try dinner - parotta & tiffen items with all sides. Finally: If you pass by that way and if you are hungry and want to have a quick non-veg food, you can go here.
