There are few places or restaurants if we may call them, that truly make you feel at home; it reminds you of how mothers or even grandmothers cook or cooked! The food is not stylishly placed yet it gives you the warmth of home! Next comes in the mind or the individuals behind this endeavor; N.s. Krishnamoorthi Sir of Prems Graama Bhojanam is one such brilliant mind behind this beautifully tucked away “village mess” in urban Chennai!
Besides dishing out the awesomest food, @N S Krishnamoorthi Sir, along with his ever smiling wife and daughter leaves no stone unturned to make you feel at home!
I honestly did not feel I wasn’t eating at their home! Such was the care, concern and love showered upon us by this wonderful family who runs an equally amazing place called @prems.graama.bhojanam !
You cannot possibly miss this place next time when you are in Chennai! Each and every artifact that adorns this mess is handpicked! The food that comes to your table is hot, fresh and just the way your and my mother or grandmother would cook!
The food that we tasted at @prems.graama.bhojanam :
Rasam Sadam/Rasam Rice Saambaar Sadam/Saambaar Rice Kolaurandai/Lentil balls fried Sweet Potato and white kidney beans Cutlets Ridge Gourd fries Apollo Paneer, inspired by Hyderabad speciality Apollo Fish Benne Dosa Tumkur Idli Sweet Pongal
PS: Remember, all your rice gets replaced with millets of various kinds and even their filter coffee does not have sugar, hence you can order a “Sukku Kaapi” or Dry ginger infused coffee! Even the drinking they serve isn’t ordinary, it’s infused with pinches of fresh Turmeric, Tulsi leaves and edible Camphor!
Overall a beautiful experience! Not to forget that in spite of having a super busy day NS Krishnamoorthi Sir, his wife and daughter for a second didn’t lose their smile and the warmth towards all! That’s the best thing you can take away from their besides the food that I have mentioned so much!
Thanks a zillion @nskmoorthi57 Sir and his family for giving us an opportunity to know what good food...
Read moreChennai Before I leave from this beautiful city to which I’m attached in many ways . One last mandatory pit stop 🛑 Prems Graama Bhojanam Yes a wonderful concept which is a brainchild of N.s. Krishnamoorthi uncle who has done a fantastic job by introducing millets in to some exotic dishes served . Yes the food at prems has a unique touch - one would have a home made feel and enjoy a healthy and nutritious meal 🥘 Each dish served here is unique and tastes divine .
👉🏻Started with Coconut 🥥 nectar A perfect sweet and refreshing drink made from flower buds of coconuts trees . This one is mind blowing and has loads of medicinal values in it . (They call it as Neera or Padhaneer in local language) 👉🏻Then tried the mushroom 🍄 soup made with fresh veggies . No artificial colours or preservatives used ! 👉🏻 then comes Kolaurundai - Madurai speciality which is made with soya chunks , coconut , Chinna dal.A perfect appetiser . 👉🏻Apollo paneer a perfect replica of hyderabad speciality apollo fish . But this one is made with paneer and millet coating ,loved the tangyness and finely chopped garlic used in it. 👉🏻Special thali - this compromises of millet based veg biryani , millet sambar dish , millet based rasam dish and miller based curd dish . The chutneys are given as accompaniments - allammaagaya, pappuchutney . It comes with roti , Channa masala and poriyal. . To end this meal we have black rice Halwa which is just divine (Reminds me of Thirunelvelli Halwa 💓) On the whole it’s a roller coaster ride of native touch with robust flavours I could sense with each dish served .
If you are in chennai do head to Prems Graama Bhojanam for an offbeat experience.
Summing up my trip on a delicious note 📝

Read moreA scrumptious, healthy, vegetarian South Indian meal in a charming restaurant, that’ll leave your wallet happy, your face smiling and your tummy full! Don’t miss Prems Graama Bhojanam in Adyar.
Warm colours, wooden benches, and beautiful paintings exude a charming village vibe. Enchanting enough to make you forget that there isn’t an AC, though don’t worry the fans provide adequate airflow and will leave you feeling cool.
The décor and paintings are made by the owner, with an emphasis on reusing and recycling waste material. Curtains made from old sarees and potted plants kept in old plastic bottles adorn the restaurant and lend to its cosy ambience.
The food is about the closest thing you will get to your grandmother’s traditional vegetarian cooking. All their ingredients are locally sourced and instead of grains like rice they use millets like bajra, jowar, ragi as healthier alternatives.
We love how they’ve included healthy options so say bye-bye to maida and sugar! Jaggery and traditional sweeteners are used instead of processed sugar and all their foods are preservative-free. Even the water has additions like camphor and tulsi to make it taste better and aid digestion. How cool is that?
Meals start at INR 95 and go up to INR 200. The top picks on the menu are the Konkan Neer Dosai, Mini Uthappams, Rasam Sadham, their plate-sized Thatte Idlis, and Sukku Coffee. Oh, and don’t forget to try out the refreshing Buttermilk.
Their well-loved simple South Indian meals are light, healthy, and offered to you at a very modest price point. No surprises that PGB is one of the highest rated restaurants in Adyar according to Zomato. You’re definitely going to want to stop by the next time you’re in Adyar and we recommend...
