It is an amazing sould finding temple with great devotional vibes. Temple History : The Anantha Padmanabhaswami Temple is a Hindu temple in the neighbourhood of Adyar in Chennai, India. The temple is located on 2nd Main Road, Gandhi Nagar, near the Fortis Malar Hospital. Dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, the temple is named after the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram and the deity Vishnu is depicted reclining on the mythological five-headed serpent as in the Padmanabhaswamy Temple of Thiruvananthapuram. The temple was constructed in 1962 on land donated by Chithira Thirunal, the last Maharaja of Travancore and caters to Chennai’s Malayali community. The temple is constructed in the beautiful Kerala style and is well maintained to this date. Within the premises of the temple, lie an yagashala for conducting daily sermons. There is also a statue of Chithira Thirunal, the last Maharajah of Travancore unveiled by Lord Erskine, the then Governor of Madras on September 29, 1939 commemorating the Temple Entry Proclamation.

Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple is dedicated to Vishnu. It is a replica of Anantha Padmanabha Swamy of Trivandrum. The main deity Lord Vishnu is in the reclining posture on the five headed Adhisesha. The main deity is worshipped through 3 doors, which represents the birth, life & death of a person. Through the first door, we can see the face of Padmanabha & the right hand worshipping the Siva Lingam. From the second door we can see the Brahma seated on a lotus originating from the Vishnu's navel & from the 3rd door we can see the Lord's lotus feet. The sanctum also has idols of Sage Bhrigu, Sage Markandeya as well as Sridevi & Bhoomi Devi. There are separate shrines for Vinayagar & Navagraha outside the main temple. Inside there are shrines for Garuda & Anjaneya. Outer walls of the sanctum has idols of Sudharshana, Lakshmi Narasihma, Ashtadasabhuja Mahadurga. It was built in 1962 on the land donated by Chithira Thirunal, the last Maharaja of Travancore.

5 stars for the marvellous temple architecture. 1 star for the temple management. Very poor crowd management. No proper queue is maintained. Minimum wait time is 2 hours. It has been mentioned that 6.30 am to 7.30 am is darshan time, we reached there by 6.30am , No one was there to regulate the queue. Suddenly one person said everyone to be seated on their respective places and darshan will be after 8.30. No water facilities. Around 8.15am they opened special darshan ticket of Rs500 , which is not at all worth, wait time and worshipping time remains the same as the general queue . Ladies are permitted yo wear chudi, but they are supposed to wear dhoti around. Dhoties are available in the nearby shops and also in temple counter. Mobiles are not allowed, one has to leave the luggage, back bags at the cloak room,(outside the temple entrance)only cash bag is permitted.

Shri Ananta Padmanabha Swamy Temple at 2nd Main Road, Gandhinagar, Adyar, Chennai-600020 is amongst the finest Temples at Chennai. Though, it's not BIG in size compared to conventional or ancient Temples built by our Indian Kings & Emperors, this Temple built by the Travancore Maharaja Family, with Padmanabha in lying posture is a delightful place of Divinity! My association started with this Temple from the age of 11 years when my dad shifted to Chennai to become Dy.Director of Sugar Dept. During those times, it was just a basic temple, without the huge Changes like Golden Doors for the Sanctum Sanctorem, Golden Chariot (which by paying about Rs.1500/- or so, Devotees can circumbulate around the Garba Griha 3 times to fulfill their Vows), the Concrete and Steel Roofing to prevent Rains and make it fit for all weather Worship, many Sannidhis for Sudharshan (Sri Chakrathalwar), Lakshmi-Narasimhar(my wife's favourite God), Anjaneyar (my favourite God, around whose Sannidhi I keep doing 108 Pradakshanams most of the time I visit this Temple, because HE GRANTS so many of our "legitimate" Wishes without Fail! You must also try it out & benefit from his abundant Blessings! So many good things have happened in my life with HIS Blessings! PRAISE BE TO LORD ANJANEYA!🙏) Garudalvar Sannidhi, Navagraha Sannidhi, Vinayaka Sannidhi and a Ananteeswar Sannidhi at the outer prahar under a huge Pupil Tree (Arasa Maram). They also have an Air-conditioned Kalyan Mantap with Dining Halls abutting this Temple (in which Upanyasams, Music Kutcheries are regularly conducted and also Weddings & Receptions, at reasonable cost. You can utilise this wonderful Hall for your family functions too).

May Lord Anantapadmanabha Swamy shower you and yours with abundance of Health, Wealth and...

Wel maintained temple.

Histroy of the temple below.

Ever since the formation of two the colonies of Gandhinagar and Kasturibanagar, many residents therein expressed a keen desire to have a place of worship near at hand. At the above meeting the residents met informally expressed the view that a temple in a centre place of Adyar to be brought forth with the co-operation of all concerned.

On 12th December, 1956 a society by name Adyar Hindu Religious Society was formed at the residence of Sri. A. R. Narayana Rao, #2, 2nd Crescent Park road, Gandhinagar, Adyar.

A committee led by Sri. A.R. Narayana Rao approached His Highness Maharaja of Travancore, Sri Padmanabha Daasa Chithirai Thirunaall at the palace in Adyar and requested him to allot a place in his vast compound near the bus stand for constructing the temple. His highness promptly encouraged the idea that the temple and suggested that it be situated in an independent premises outside the palace and that he would himself provide necessary funds to purchase a site. Accordingly the above society received a cheque for Rs. 7500 from His Highness to enable the committee to obtain a suitable site and establish a temple dedicated to SRIANANTHA PADMANABHA SWAMY.

His Highness Maharaja of Travancore agreed very kindly to donate the image or Vigaraha of SRANANTHAPADMANABHA SWAMY as it existed as the replica of SRIANANTHA PADMANABHA SWAMY of Trivandrum. His Holiness Shankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam visited the site, blessed the venture and consecrated the spot. It was also his desire that there may be only one temple that the main shrine to be dedicated to SRIANANTHAPADMANABHA SWAMY as portrayed exactly...
