Read moreIt was a pleasure dining at Mathysa Restaurant, Adyar Branch. I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a delightful ambiance that set the stage for a memorable culinary journey.
First and foremost, the food at Mathysa is simply outstanding. The menu offers a wide range of delectable dishes, blending traditional flavors with modern culinary techniques. Each dish was thoughtfully crafted and presented with finesse. The flavors were balanced, and the ingredients used were fresh and of the highest quality.
I particularly enjoyed their signature dishes, such as the flavorful Thattu Idly, Sapthaswara Oothamppam and Raja Raja Cholan Dosai. The chef's expertise was evident in every bite, leaving me craving for more. It doesn't stop only with south Indian items. Their expertise extended to north Indian starters such as Paneer Tikka and Corn Tiki. I ended up with a super strong coffee which was good too. I can't rank them as top to bottom as each dish was good in its own way.
The service is top-notch. The staff members are attentive, friendly, and well-versed in the menu. They patiently provided excellent recommendations, ensuring that my dining experience was tailored to my preferences. The service was prompt, and my needs were always anticipated without being intrusive.
The restaurant's ambiance is stylish and inviting, with tasteful decor that creates a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The seating arrangements provide both privacy and a sense of openness, allowing for an intimate meal or a gathering with friends and family. The lighting and music complement the dining experience perfectly, creating a pleasant and soothing ambiance.
Furthermore, they pay meticulous attention to hygiene and cleanliness. The restaurant maintains impeccable standards of cleanliness and adheres to all necessary safety protocols, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for diners.
Overall, Mathysa Restaurant, Adyar Branch is a gem for every VEGETARIAN food lover that deserves every bit of praise. The combination of exquisite food, impeccable service, and inviting ambiance makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking an exceptional dining experience.

Read moreMathsya is a popular restaurant in Chennai for South Indian, particularly Udupi style food. I had visited their Pondy Bazaar outlet multiple times. Now they have two more branches. Got to visit their Adyar outlet recently and this is the review.
Mathsya is a pure vegetarian restaurant, serving South Indian, North Indian dishes, as well as a few Chinese and Mexican items. But I decided to stay focused on the Udupi items they have on offer.
We were given a welcome drink- rose milk. Ordered Guliyappa (aka Paniyaram in tamil)- a dish where batter used to make dosa/idli is baked in the shape of small balls on a specialized tawa. Infused with some vegetables for added taste and served with chutney, sambar, the first item gave good start to the evening. Friends ordered some starters- lotus stem and fried corn. These were good, but I liked crispy corn served at Coal Barbeque and few other restaurants a bit better.
Neer dose is another coastal Karnataka special dish you should try. (neer= water in Kannada) It is a thin layer of dosa served with coconut flakes and jaggery. Serving this in sets of 2 would have been better in my opinion.
Next ordered a plate of Kadubu. Kadubu is coastal Karnataka dish where idle batter is cooked in a cup made of jackfruit leaves. I was expecting the same, full sized Kadubu in jackfruit leaves. But we were served smaller sized ones- no difference in taste but missed the aroma of jackfruit leaves. Upon checking with management later we were told about the operational challenges- non-availability of jackfruit leaves and time it takes to cook during busy evenings.
While we waited for Rocket Masala Dosa, a four foot long Masala dosa, next order of Bisibee bath arrived. Taste was authentic. I had buttermilk for company while I savored on the bisibele bath (also known as sambar rice). Rocket Masala dosa now arrived, drawing attention of everyone around, thanks to its long size. Masala is not stuffed inside like a conventional masala dosa but is supplied separately in bowls.
Wanted to try Mangalore Bonda and Thatte idli but didn’t have any space left. The items are reasonably priced. One Udupi item I felt missing in the menu was Patrode.
Overall Mathsya Adyar is a great vegetarian outlet in Adyar area to visit with family, for authentic south Indian food. They also have great collection of North Indian, Chinese dishes. There will be fair bit of waiting...
