Beautifully illuminated and decorated restaurant building walking distance from my hotel - Hotel Chennai Gate and opposite Chennai Egmore Station.
Very courteous, friendly and professional English speaking staff. They have a huge menu! The portion of food was good, delicious, tasty and satisfying.
I had four flavorful dishes for dinner: Masala Dosa, Aloo Paratha, Pani Puri and special coffee.
In every mouthful my taste buds were excited about the unique new flavours. I will certainly recommend this to all acquaintances, family and friends! I give 4.5 / 5 stars!
I look forward to coming here again and again!
Today June 29, 2024 I returned to Sangeetha Veg Restaurant for another course of pure Chennai flavor!
Edit: Monday December 16, 2024: visited this location once again for their Puri Thali, Masala Dosa and awesome tasting special coffee ☕.
Met Ms K Kavitha at the Reception, Mr Saravanan at the cashier and Mr M Suresh who served me with a unique ritual of pouring coffee from the small glass to the metal saucer! Now I know why the coffee tastes the yummiest! I have one Masala Dosa, Puri Thali and 2 coffee and my bill was Rs 279 / USD 3.40 / TT$ 23.81 (see pics and bill).
I have found the best place in Chennai where my taste buds find satisfaction - Sangeetha Veg Restaurant opposite Egmore Railway Station. 4.5/5 stars once again!

Read moreSince the cook wanted a day off we were forced to order our meals. There were 3 of us and having experienced the quantity of food given by other restaurants in a Thali we decided that we would order only 2 Tamil Nadu Meals.
They had specified that we would get a Sweet - in this case Vermicelli and Sago Payasam, Chappathi - did not get it, with side dish. Rice, Sambhar, Rasam, Kolambu,Curd, Poriyal, Appalam and Pickle.
The rice came packed in a banana leaf and if you are a hearty eater you would be disappointed with the quantity. It was not sufficient for 1 person. The sambhar was quite good and you could get the hit of spice after having had it. Rasam also was quite good. The porial was cabbage and the ridge gourd kootu was average at best. The Karakolambu true to its name was a spicy affair and would put your mouth on fire.
I know that many people like to drink payasam from the plate, or leaf and it would showcase your skill as an eater. The payasam was quite watery and would run down your hand before you transfer it from your plate to your mouth. So have it in a cup if you don't want it to be a messy affair.
The quantity of food was very less for an average eater like me and if you do want to order you would have to order 2 portions for 1 person and would be a...
Read moreI beleive that there are 2 components when it comes to a restaurant that gives it a good name. Taste and Experience. While Sangeetha as always promises on taste I found my experience a terrible one. Coming from me must hurt actually because I'm not a critic, I usually go easy on my reviews.
So what went bad? There was one cleaner who said he was unwell (during Covid) but still had to do the workload of 2 people because the other one was out on sick leave. This delayed the table getting cleaned and leading to us getting the menu 20 mins later. The table attender had to deal with 2 other tables excluding ours which made the service further delayed. It was still fine because Sangeetha promises on taste. The point where I lost it was when my Dosa came cold as if it was already made and served to me because an order for dosa came up. Sambhar was hot, I'm not denying but what restaurant offers the side hotter than the main? I'm sorry but the service did not justify the bill that I paid. I do hope with all my heart that it was a one time thing and that everyone has a bad day but the next time I walk through a Sangeetha restaurant I'd think twice about entering one. Deeply...
